The United States Navy lost 701 vessels during World War II. The last sunk was the submarine USS Bullhead (SS 332) in the Java Sea near the coast of Japan on the day Hiroshima was bombed.
All hands were lost and the Bullhead continues on Eternal Patrol. The skipper was LCDR E.R. Holt who attended Clemson prior to his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. Let us honor these unsung heroes this Memorial Day.
