South Carolina Highway 75 is an 8.11- mile -long state highway that runs from the southwest end at SC 5 near Van Wyck to the northeast end at NC 75 at the North Carolina line near Hancock. Shawn Crawford is from Van Wyck. A former Clemson track athlete, he was the last American to win gold at the Olympics in the men's 200-meter dash. That was 2004 when Justin Gatlin was the last American to win men's 100 meter gold. Noah Lyles is set to break the streaks. The Summer Olympics begin July 26.

4 miles east of Van Wyck and 9 miles north of Lancaster, South Carolina is Andrew Jackson State Park between US 521 and the North Carolina line. It is a 360-acre South Carolina state park established in 1952 to honor the 7th U.S. president and the only one born in South Carolina. It has camping, picnicking, hiking, boating, and fishing with a 20-acre lake and 25 campsites with water and electricity. There is a museum with Revolutionary War artifacts and exhibits of the life of Andrew Jackson who grew up in the area. The museum depicts colonial life with its decor and early tools and farm equipment. The park also has a large bronze statue of a young Jackson on a farm horse with the title - Andrew Jackson: A Boy of the Waxhaws. And the park has a replica of an 18th century schoolhouse and an amphitheater.

Imagine going all the way back to November of 1967! 😳

In less than 20 years I’ll be 75, that’s hard to believe.

I’m going to say the obvious here, we are going to put up 75 on the dawgs in game one, let’s go!

Hopefully our defense holds them to Zippo too!

Dabo might call the dogs on offense off before 75out of respect but our reserves will refuse to stop score on them.

Hope this doesn’t hurt our chances of being in the SEC.

75 - The Clemson Alma Mater has Officially been Part of Clemson for 75 Years

“Where the Blue Ridge Yawns Its Greatness”

According to ClemsonWiki, the words to Clemson’s current alma mater were written by A.C. Corcoran in 1919:

“In the February 25 issue of The Tiger, Corcoran was thanked for his contribution. "AN APPRECIATION"

Clemson at last has an "Alma Mater" which she can sing in praise of her heroes. To the author of this song we wish to extend our hearty thanks and deepfelt appreciation. In this small way, we, the Corps of Cadets, endeavor to show him that we are glad that there is a man among us who has both genius and spirit and who is willing to use it for his college.

To A. C. Corcoran we extend our thanks and appreciation for his work and, most of all, for his "Alma Mater." (Page 1.)”

https://clemsonwiki.com/wiki/Alma_Mater

But, according to that same article, the music was revised in 1949 to the current form we now know and love:

“The music was arranged by Dr. Hugh H. McGarity, who helped Robert Farmer, winner of Tiger Brotherhood's contest, put the tune to new music in 1949. The alma mater is sung at the beginning and end of every football game, several other sporting events, and at the end of graduation/commencement ceremonies. Though it has 4 full verses and a chorus, usually only the first verse and the chorus are sung. ”

https://clemsonwiki.com/wiki/Alma_Mater

Special Waving Motion:

During the Clemson Alma Mater, alum raise their right hand and wave in a twisting/waving motion. As Clemson.edu states:

“The first verse and the chorus of Clemson’s “Alma Mater” are sung at the end of all Clemson sporting events. At the beginning of the note “O’er,” Tigers place their hands in the air with thumb tucked under and wave it as though you were holding a cap.”

https://news.clemson.edu/solid-orange-2-bills-and-clemson-ice-cream-a-look-at-the-biggest-tiger-traditions/

The reason Clemson alums hold the salute when singing “Echo: in the line “That the Tiger’s Roar May Echo” goes back to Clemson’s heritage as a military school. According to TheTigerCU.com:

“Clemson was originally a military school, and during the college’s early military days, first-year students wore rat caps and waved them in the air during every football game. Today, after singing the alma mater, students and alumni still wave their hands in the air with thumbs folded underneath as though holding a cap.”

Clemson Alma Mater Lyrics:

Where the Blue Ridge yawns its greatness; Where the Tigers play; Here the sons of dear Old Clemson, Reign supreme alway.

We will dream of great conquests For our past is grand, And her sons have fought and conquered Every foreign land.

Where the mountains smile in grandeur O’er the hill and dale; Here the Tiger lair is nestling Swept by storm and gale.

We are brothers strong in manhood For we work and strive; and our Alma Mater reigneth Forever in our lives.

Chorus Dear Old Clemson, we will triumph And with all our might That the Tiger’s roar may echo O’er the mountain height.

Jeff Scott was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Clemson, for 12 seasons. During those 12 seasons, Clemson achieved some of its greatest success.

As a player:

When WR Jeff Scott walked on to the Clemson team, his dad Brad Scott was a Clemson assistant and former Gamechicken head coach. Jeff Scott played for Clemson between 2000-2002. According to Sports-Reference.com, Scott registered the following statistics at Clemons:

Jeff Scott (2000-2002):
- 5 Carries for 48 Yards (9.6 Average)
- 1 Rushing Touchdown
- 3 Receptions for 23 Yards (7.7 Average)
- 1 for 1 in Pass Completions for 7 Yards

https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jeff-scott-1.html

After playing:

Jeff Scott spent time coaching high school, including serving as head coach in Blythewood High School.

He served as the WR coach at Presbyterian College (PC) in 2007 before returning to God’s Country.

Scott returned to Clemson to coach WRs in 2008. He maintained that role until being named co-offensive coordinator along with his former teammate, Tony Elliot, in 2015. He remained co-offensive coordinator between 2015-2019. According to GoBulls.com enjoyed the following success as co-offensive coordinator at Clemson:

“Scott was a key part of the rise of one of the most dominant football programs in the nation. He helped lead the Tigers to five straight College Football Playoff appearances, four CFP Championship game appearances (2015, 2016, 2018 & 2019 seasons) and national titles in the 2016 and 2018 seasons while coaching in nine CFP games and posting a 6-3 record. Scott returns to a home field in Raymond James Stadium where Clemson scored 21 fourth-quarter points to defeat Alabama, 35-31, in the CFP National Championship game on Jan. 9, 2017 to claim the program’s first national title in 35 years.

In his five seasons as co-offensive coordinator, the Clemson offense averaged better than 500 yards per game in four seasons and set 138 team and individual records, including marks for total offense (2018, 527.2 ypg), scoring offense (2018, 44.3 ppg), passing offense (2016, 5,009 yards), rushing offense (2018, 3,723 yards) and total touchdowns (2018, 90). The top three total offense seasons in program history, all over 7,500 yards, came with Scott as co-offensive coordinator, as did the top three scoring seasons, all with 577 points or better.”

Jeff Scott was named the University of South Florida (USF) head coach in December 2019. He continued to coach Clemson through the 2019-2020 playoffs.

Scott coached USF from 2020-2022. After leaving USF after the 2022 season, he returned to live in Clemson.

favorite player of the time, Deacon Jones of the Los Angeles Rams. He was a member of the "Fearsome Foursome", the Rams much vaunted defensive Front Four.

Unfortunately, all I eve got out of football was riding the bench, and two slipped discs that pretty much paralyzed me from the waist down for about eight weeks, as the feeling gradually returned downstairs.

I must have come REAL close to severing the spinal cord, as there was nothing but tingles below the waist like when your leg or foot "goes to sleep". I am eternally grateful the nerves were only pinched, not severed. And, it wasn't even a contact injury. It came from doing the old exercise called "Six inch Leg Lifts" where you lie on your back on a hard surface, and hold your legs, fully extended, about six inches off the floor, as long as you possibly can. During this, which contracts your abs something fierce, the coaches also exhorted us to "pound on your stomach!"

I was an obedient minion, because I did all that stupid stuff until suddenly, the disc between L3/L4 shot sideways one way, and the one between L4/L5 shot the opposite way. I knew something was badly wrong before I even tried to get up, as I couldn't feel my legs. I somehow got to my feet, but was wobbling all over the place, and fell down again, much to the amusement of my team mates.

I gave them a few choice words that I didn't care if the coaches heard or not. I pretty much knew my football time was over anyway at that point. They felt bad later on, when they realized I was actually badly hurt. I didn't care about that, either.

I hated those leg lifts in Basic Training. Did them at different levels- at 45 degree angles to begin with , which wasn't too bad, hold for as long as the drill sergeant wanted, then lower halfway to the ground for a while, and finally to 6 inches from the ground which was absolute agony. By the time you were allowed to relax, your abs felt like they had been shredded!
