Kind of shocking SMU doesn't have baseball or softball

Texas is a hot bed for baseball talent. Look at Dallas Baptist U and Tex Christain U right in the Dallas area that have good teams with denomination ties.
But then just look at the other D1 schools that produce quality baseball: Texas, TTU, Baylor, Rice, Ta&m, and probably missing one.
SMU had a team until 1980 but shut down due to AD revenue shortages. Then 1987 Football Death Penalty caused the AD to fall further in the hole.
That said, after further reading, sounds like many proposals to bring back baseball since 2006 have fallen short and now it is almost impossible for a few reasons. First being very limited acreage on campus and to purchase land close in the Dallas area is too costly. There was discussions of upgrading a local HS to meet D1 needs but nothing came through.
Second is due to Title IX where they would have to add a sizeable womens sport like softball or Lacrosse and this just adds to the acreage dilemma.
Now the addition of a D1 baseball team is even more of a challenge because they joined the ACC and are receiving minimal revenues, max up to 25% of full share for at least 7yrs. SMU AD is running off donations and sports attendance.
The addition of baseball and/or softball for SMU is likely put on hold for at least 7 more years or until they become a full conference share school.
Here is your history lesson for today, ha! Discuss?

Been to their campus and your right, be tough to find a place to put a solid baseball complex. SMU not having baseball is a big reason why Dallas Baptist is such a powerhouse.
I still believe if the conference stays together, they will eventually get baseball, possibly building a complex a couple miles off campus.
I can see them being a .500 team in the ACC if they decide to get a team, tons of baseball talent in Texas. Title 9 is an issue unfortunately , which again, is an absolute shame and needs to be abolished. If guys can play woman’s sports now then Title 9 needs to go.

They could retrofit football stadium to accommodate baseball and softball. If the dimensions would allow it. Similar to Stanford. I’m not buying SMU is low on money. So much oil money. Gotta go shake some boosters while holding them by the ankles!
Truth be known baseball doesn’t make money. Neither does softball. It becomes yet another drain on precious football resources. I’m glad we took the leap and added softball. I love watching our ladies play!

They have been shaking the boosters for coins. Remember they aren't making a dime from the ACC's media revenue for the first 9 years,

Absolutely beautiful campus but totally got an old school boys club energy from the whole place.
I don’t see them not having an off campus stadium nor funding a sport that’ll cost them.

I guess there is some new massive HS that is fairly close that people are saying they could play at until they either refurbished an older park close to them or could find some land. One article suggested that enough land and parking fairly close to campus would cost upwards of $60mil just for properties and demolition. Then you would have to pay for field construction and a remote park rental while waiting for construction. Sounds like a pretty hefty investment for a sport that is likely revenue neutral but then add softball or Lacrosse expenses as well.

Which is strange. No big Dallas area school has a softball team.
