It is NOT a talent problem.

I see many posts bemoaning the lack of talent, speed, etc.
Looking at the last 4 recruiting classes (2019-2022) per Rivals, Clemson has an average class rank of 6.75 in the country.
The 3 teams we have lost to this year have the following average rankings during that time span:
Duke - 54 FSU - 21 Miami - 23.5
There are major problems with this team. I’m no football expert but there is a man in the upstate who is paid handsomely to be one. He needs to earn that paycheck and figure out how to right this ship. It is hard to fathom how they have fallen this far this fast.

You are so correct. A defensive coordinator that has never ever been an on field coach is now also coaching the LB's. Rb coach who was a great player but has no coaching experience. Codefensive coordinator that was a teammate and highschool coach and had no college experience before coming to Clemson. An OL coach that was a GA then coached one season at a small college. A WR coach that again also has zero on field experience before becoming coach at Clemson. We can do this for pretty much every coach except Riley, Reed, and Eason.

You are not wrong. We have more talent than most and are getting the least out of it. That is all on coaching. We have a mirror problem. They don't ever look into one...

that Fl.State and Miami both increased that talent level a little with key additions through the portal. Don't have to build a whole team with it to use it successfully

If we don't have success with the four and five star talent we already have on the team, how can you believe they will do any better with transfer portal additions?

I wouldn't say it would be a guarantee. It'd be interesting to see a 3 star come in that has been coached and development by an experienced positions coach.

We see that already when they come out of high school. Our WRs look great as freshmen and decline year by year because Grisham has no idea what he's doing. It's the coaches, not the players.

People who blame talent are doing so because questioning or doubting the coaches is too hard for them to do.

I think we will see Jeff Scott back this week coaching the WR and I think he will get Brad Scott back too coaching the OL to finish the season until he can find someone to coach O Line next year and Jeff will stay on.
Brad Scott is old.... but I think he will come out of retirement for Dabo and to help Jeff out for a possible heir apparent to the throne.
I do not think he will replace Spiller..... but who knows.
How the offense has been playing..... it needs to happen now.

I dont expect Dabo to make any changes until after the season.

I’m sure he will change a position coach or two, because he needs a scapegoat for this disappointing season we are having.
But I don’t expect anything to materially change, because Dabo isn’t going to question the “Clemson way” as he has defined it.

You also have to look at portal recruitment. Dook, FSU, and Miami have bought in portal talent that has skyrocketed their team value.
FSU alone pushed their average player ceiling to elite status through the portal.
We have a staff problem. Too many position coaches, assistants, Grad assistants (GA’s), and development coaches who had zero experience in their new role. The list is long. Cole Stoudt promoted from GA to offensive development coach. Tyler Grisham from GA to receiver coach. Mickey Conn given analyst role from Grayson to solidify three Grayson recruits (Gallman and others) and promoted to co-defensive coordinator and special teams/safety coach. Thomas Austin from GA to o line coach at Ga State one year then promoted to same position at Clemson. Caldwell was awful, Austin might be worse. Analyst/GA Goodwin promoted to co-defensive coordinator with no experience as a legit coach anywhere. Might as well give a 14 year old a Ferrari. Tyler Grisham from GA to receiver coach. Zero experience. Spiller from analyst/GA to RB coach.
During our incredibly successful run to the mountain top; Dabo hired the best coordinatirs and position coaches available. I believe in Dabo. However, nepotism hires and scholarships have bitten us.
It’s time to clean house. Hire the best defensive coordinator available. Or, unavailable. Pay someone crazy money. Keep Goodwin as an analyst. Maybe. All but Dabo and Riley need to be replaced. Maybe Reed stays as DB coach. He’s a proven commodity.

It's insane to just look at recruiting rankings. It's 2023...talent is high school recruiting + portal recruiting and Dabo gets a big, fat zero in portal recruiting.

that pushed us around were transfers. One from bama and one from UCF. Does using the portal guarantee success? No way, but I don't see how anyone can expect us to compete when everyone were competing against uses it.

And why is it that any if our linemen can be pushed around all night? I don't know if it's strength or fundamentals but that junk should never happen.

It’s not a talent problem….yet. If the current trajectory continues talent will leave and the recruiting will start to suffer. This is only the beginning.

Ignore recruiting rankings. What do your eyes tell you.
Cade was ranked higher than Deshaun. Shipley and Mafah were ranked higher than Etienne and Gallman.
We have very few NFL prospects on offense. Talent is definitely an issue.

Even if it's a talent problem, we should be able to easily plug those gaps with transfers in the offseason. Oh crap.
