IPTAY letter from Neff
Nov 18, 2022, 7:16 PM
|
|
Neff sent an email today asking IPTAY members to donate to NIL initiatives TigerImpact and Dear Old Clemson so that Clemson can continue to compete in athletics. This is in addition to the increases in IPTAY dues next year. I am going to email Neff and ask him what budget cuts IPTAY is going to be making to help the cause. There sure were a lot of folks traveling on IPTAY’s dime to the ND game. I do not feel that IPTAY is running as slim of an organization as they can and needs to make cuts to help the cause.

“Seat equity” does not equal IPTAY dues.

If $60 is the floor donation, shouldn't IPTAY now be IPSAY?

Not only that but Block C Club dues went from $20 per year to $50 per year with no more perks.

Anybody old enough to remember the original IPTAY?

Wasn't it an effort to get a massive donor base? "I Pay Ten A Year"?
30 or so years ago our AD got permission to use IPTAY as our fundraising campaign. Except, it meant, "I Pay Thirty A Year." Inflation, you know.

Point fingers wherever you like, but the NiL world is a money game. Either we all give or we are left behind. It’s a sad situation. Things are changing.

Here is an idea Neff - fight against this activity because it will destroy CFB. You are basically asking IPTAY members to cheat. This is not what the NIL was meant for.
Crowd funding to pay players. This is what we are talking about. Like I said before, I am probably not watching CFB in 10 years unless something is done.
Heck NFL owners need to wise up. Eliminate the cap and have crowd funding for players. They would not have to pay a dime.

If the AD wants more funding for athlete (all sports) NIL, just maybe someone in the department with "Reign", in the new NIL Building, needs to get off their a$$ and go "beat the bushes" for business and corporate sponsorships in return for athlete cooperation. If the new NIL center is not bringing in enough, find someone to run it that can be successful.
Clemson Announces NIL Program, Reign. – Clemson Tigers Official Athletics Site https://clemsontigers.com/clemson-announces-nil-program-reign/Clemson Announces NIL Program, Reign. CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson Athletics and Director of Athletics Graham Neff are proud to announce the next generation of the Tigers’ Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) programming dubbed “Reign.” Clemson’s multifaceted program is aggressive, comprehensive, education-focused and suited to the ever-changing landscape. "We've talked for a while about our intent to become more aggressive in the NIL environment, and I feel that Reign. personifies that notion," said Neff. "While many of these services have been available to our student-athletes since last year, our department has worked tirelessly to evolve our NIL philosophy. It's critical that our student-athletes have the education and tools to succeed in this area, and that our coaches have a direct way to address the questions they receive on the recruiting trail. NIL is ever-changing, and we will continue to monitor, adapt and innovate.”

If the Reign execs report to Neff, he needs to make certain they're doing their jobs sourcing potential businesses for funds. Hope his email was not one of their suggestions as I suspect salaries for that group are substantial.

Just chuckled. We paid a baseball coach a million dollars. Dabo deserves every dime. There must be limits on #kids on team. Gear, training costs, medical costs. Bill Spiers came 10 years ago to complete degree. Still here on salary. Excessive. Olympic sports have director of ops, travel excesses. Neff needs to take a knife to budgets and count on Dabo to help cut some costs. All sports can’t mimic football - expect similar benefits. There is only so much money. We have a problem.

IPTAY obsolete. It seems that there are two architectures to support and I don't know that keeping both alive will be possible.

The old “championships begin with scholarships” thing is obsolete.
Our hard earned money is going to pay salaries of useless employees and their extravagant travel budget.

Dabo’s $10+ million a year salary has to come from somewhere. You won’t see IPTAY donor levels decreasing, that’s for sure.

After all expenses related to football were paid, Clemson pocketed about $8 million from football. How much did basketball contribute or do they just ride the coattails? That's what I thought.

1. I don’t think anyone here disagrees with Dabo’s contract. His accomplishments warrant that he be among the highest paid football coaches. 2. With that said, it IS a lot of money. It’s more than we have ever paid any coach on campus. It’s over three times what the next highest coach on campus is made. 3. Dabo is also the most recent coach on campus to get a raise, so it makes sense that additional funds might need to be raised to help pay that new expense, among the many other expenses the athletic department has.
To answer your question, men’s basketball doesn’t ride anyone’s coattails. It is self-sufficient and makes a healthy profit. Like football, it is used to pay for all of the other sports on campus.
