here are some of the great traditions started during my lifetime....Running on the field (By Frank Howard I believe..and may have been a year or two BEFORE I was born actually...and it is running on the field...NOT the softened name GATHERING AT THE PAW),Running down The Hill,Tiger Paws on the cheeks of cheerleader..which spread across the country,Orannnnnge...Whiiiiite...Orannnnnge...Whiiiiiite (Also spread around the country),Tiger Rags (Copied in Cootlumbia with the Cockerchiefs), Ceee..Ellll...Eeee...Emmmm...Essss..Ohhhh....Ennnn (only to be ruined by the current generation),ALL ORANGE uniforms (Ridiculed..but also quickly copied in Cootlumbia), Painting of PAWS on MAJOR HIGHWAYS, The QUIET OUT (against Duke in the 80's..which lead to the ACC BANNING the practice...which was ironic because Death Valley, THE DEATH VALLEY Coach Kelley, was the impetus for the TOO LOUD penalty...of which we were the first ROAD temp to get penalized for at NC STATE)....ANd the biggest one of all........... ................ ...................."The Paw"
SO....us old fellows have started some really good stuff..and a lot of it is being watered down to the poing that it is no longer effective or entertaining...
My question to the youngsters say, under 35, what have you initiated in the past 20 to 30 years that set Clemson at the forefront? This is an honest question....

My Freshman class (1968) included 400 women which doubled the number of female students over the previous year.
Here's what the younger generation really brought that was new to Clemson. These days a person must be really bright, have good grades and a descent SAT score to get into the school. I am old enough that I was able to attend Clemson as were 18 members of my high school graduating class of 168. I am not sure I could get into Clemson these days.
Go Tigers!!

What traditions did you personally establish at Clemson?

We ALL inherited an incredible university; a place we all love. You attacked it yesterday and said the current caretakers of that university are killing it; that is my issue with your post.
You want a new tradition how bout winning at the highest level? Like Dabo says often we've had 7 10 win seasons in the first 100 + years and have now had 13 in the last 14 years. We still had all of those things you listed when I was in school, but we also had some really crappy teams. I'd trade all of the balloons in the world for the opportunity to go to playoff games and natties. The most important thing that happens at Death Valley each Saturday is the outcome of the game. The second most important is that we create an environment that makes future students and football players desperate to want to attend Clemson. Do you really think there's one single thing happening at Death Valley that Dabo hasn't personally weighed in on? I believe hes gonna have a significant influence on every aspect of our gameday experience because he knows how important it is for recruiting. So remember when you take shots at the people who are killing your Clemson you're taking shots at Dabo.

who likes Paul Harvey is bad. LOL. I'm attacking Dabo? Are you kidding me. Dabo is the best thing that ever happened to Clemson. But, the growth that he has spawned is bad for the Clemson we all loved. And like I said, JMHO. And, there was nothing vile in my comments. But, no longer having spontaneity in crowd cheers, no more of the band just standing up and blasting a tune to get the team pumped up, no longer being able to carry on a conversation during a time out because the loud speakers are way TOO LOUD,etc.etc. Those have taken away from the game day experience so much that many people, who WERE there through the good times have stopped going. And that is a fact. Has it hurt Clemson...not yet. But when Dabo calls it quits, and we get another Hatfield that kills it in 3 years or less...followed by a Tommy, another so so Tommy....

you provided a quote from Paul Harvey about the best ways to kill America and drew parallels to it and many of the changes that have taken place at Clemson. My interpretation of that post is that you believe the powers at be are killing Clemson. If I misinterpreted then I stand corrected.
I 100% agree with you about the ear splitting noise at games. I sit in the lower bowl near the hill and itās literally louder than any heavy metal concert Iāve ever attended. Again though what I think is a lot less important than what a recruit thinks. Thereās no chance that Dabo hasnāt had input on that and other game day decisions. Itās unfortunate if some fans are choosing to forego games but Iām not really worried about an erosion of overall fan support. In 1995 Clemsonās enrollment was about 16K 30 years later weāre at about 23K; we have a significantly larger alumni base to draw from than when Danny was roaming the sidelines; shoot in 1981 there were only 12K students so weāre now about double the size.
Itās not directly related to your post but Iāll also say that if there is a problem with the passion shown by the fans it aināt the studentsā fault. I sit near the student section and theyāre on tilt, just like we were in the day, from start to finish.

I very much disagree with Dabo having much to do with anything pre game besides getting the guys on the bus and around the stadium. They hire people now a days to better (at least that is their goal) the fan experience. Dabo has a lot more important things going on besides what is happening pre game.

I would add do we actually have piped in music because of recruits visiting. God help them if that sways them one way or the other.

On another note the 4th quarter deal is great imo.
The hill and entrance has lost some luster imo. Is it because Iām getting older or they have screwed it up along with removing balloons. Dang players need lawn chairs up there they wait for so long to enter. Used to be tighter to, not the width of what a car could drive through. Just some things I remember growing up.
Get the band some real uniās. Ugliest threads for a band that I have ever seen.

I recall a time when you didn't have to be told that the team running down the hill was the most exciting 25 seconds in college football. You just knew.
Do you remember when kids would run around and pick up stacks of cups to take home after games?
And those Perry brothers?!!! Wonder what sort of NIL deal "The Refrigerator" would get nowadays?

Look, I grew up going to games and going to the West Endzone gate (back then, only 1) and hoping to find one of the coaches at the gate to get us in free and save 50 cents but I am a realist and understand that 2025 is 55-60 years from those days. My high school friend had a VW Bug and we could buy gas for a quarter a gallon and drive for days on a dollar but those days are also long gone. The point of a memory is to enjoy, cherish and remember the good times as long as we can. Things change, times change, life changes and the older I get, the more I appreciate the past. To live in the past is certain failure so don't worry, be happy.

the idea that a Clemson (or any) big college football game once cost $0.50 for a ticket unless you could get a coach to get you in for free.
And it's not about the money. It's the fact that once upon a time, college football was just a game.

long time friend who I went on the Greatest Road Trip of all time..."A train trip to the Tulane game"...It was epic! Anyway I digress....the 2$ Bills are the greatest tradition ever, created by Clemson to show the city of Atlanta what they were going to lose if they cancelled the home and home with us....AND IT WORKED! We don't leave home without'em!
