I know this all stems from the short rash of players who
committed suicide and from that, the medical Community
relayed to the NFL that constant blows to the head over
their career MIGHT have been the cause leading up to these
players blowing their brains out..but 3 or 4 players who
had mental "issues" vs 1,000s of players who played the
game when it was tougher, with less protection...Especially
with the poor design of the helmets back then, yet showed
no indication of lasting brain injury and a desire to
take there lives, tells me there's less to worry about
today than there was back in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
What you have is a knee jerk reaction by the medical
industry and the "powers that be" over Pro, College
and HS sports and it's bascially about to change the game
of football as we know it. It started with the over
regulation of celebrations after plays and TDs, and
now they are getting into allowing a group of men, some
of who have never played the game, deciding if a player
has his helmet in the wrong position, or speculating that
a player was intentionally hitting someone with malice,
AND ... having to make a call in game action speed.
This is not going to end well on any level of the sport.
Might as well remove the helmets and pads, give them
belts with flags on it, and turn it into a flag football
game. .. Let girls play too.
