Nice specks! I used to tear them up in the New River when they were running. I’d set my flounder nets then do some drifting for Reds and Specks.

As a youngster I had a habit of catching either more fish or bigger fish than my elders and routinely out-fished my father and grandfather while "learning" to fish - then found other victime later in life.

My wife's uncle was crazy about speckled trout fishing. He took me on my first speckled trout fishing trip at Harker's Island, NC to the backside of the inlet rock jetty in order to show me how it was done.

I put a StingRay grub worm tail on a red 1/2oz jig head and for my first cast tossed it towaard the rocks, hooked and caught a 27", 9 pound speckled trout.

I absolutely ruined his fishing lesson - and his trip......

To be a good fisherman, you have to think like a fish......

When we were kids we caught those in the creeks around Johns Island all the time. Was absolutely my father’s favorite thing to do. Plastic grubs or live shrimp for bait. Back then there were no size or creel limits so we would catch a cooler full of all sizes. Daddy would save empty 1/2 gallon paper milk cartons and put the filets in them, fill with water, staple the tops and fill the freezer.
