I know it was Furman, but the Valley was very quiet this weekend. What do you guys think?

Looks like the attendance was great for Furman.

I personally wasn't there, though, so can't comment on crowd noise.
Sounds like it may have been a "day at the office" type of game.

The attendance was wonderful for a game of this sort, and I thought the crowd noise was better than the Ball State game.

A couple notes...

First let me say that I was much happier about the attendance at this game vs last week. The stadium was pretty full for a Furman game and most people stayed for a long time if not the whole game. The students not on the hill still had a poor showing, by start of the second half that section was looking pretty thin.
The sound system was handled much better. However when it came time for the band it felt weak compared to what the system had been pumping.
To your point: The first drive by Furman was definitely extremely quiet. I think we all went into that game expecting a much stouter defense than we saw two weeks ago and were disappointed from the start. The game was much closer than the score indicated and I think that contributed to the noise level. The big plays still got noise and that was the happiest I'd ever seen the students react to seeing President Barker.
Go Tigers!!!

I thought the students showed up very well and stayed. They were the loudest in the valley. Dang give them some credit

Between the economy and big screen HD TV's, attendance is down in the big stadiums all over .

How 'bout this:

A Furman player/friend of mine said the same thing. It was his first time there. So I found myself explaining it away - the fact it was not a competitive game (hated to hurt his feelings). The fact that a real game it gets deafening. He understood I guess, but he had thought it would be louder.

You are right, it was quite, but what was there to be all loud and rowdy about? The game was never close.

1972 we lost 7-3 to Duke for Homecoming! And there were pretty quite crowds during Tommy West's tenure as well!

How can we say that game was much closer than the score indicated.? I can agree with that type of statement in a gem that is tight until the 4th quarter and one team scores a couple of touchdowns, maybe one on offense and then a pick 6. It was 41-7 where our most talented weapons barely touched the ball. Do you guys not believe we could have come out and scored 80 if we had really wanted to? Not flaming any poster. Just curious. It was not a close game.
