Probably easier for the teams with 1st round buys as they have more time. Would like to think all the coaches are focused on there next games.

Could be a huge distraction and set off a chain of events that hurts them in their games. For example if we went out and signed a stud DE or LB before our game it could possibly trigger discontent within those positoon groups and even possible result in guys entering the portal themselves right before the game. Obviously teams would prefer to avoid these distractions.

That’s why there is a mutually agreed upon visit date for the portal prospects.

A portal candidate who insists upon being confirmed as a verbal commitment before the head coach can make the confirmatory phone call is probably too immature for most coaches of really good teams to want.

No HC of a high end program (those 12 in the CFP qualify as high end programs, even if their history does not equate them to MI or Bama) would abide a recruit of sorts to dictate the terms by which he’ll agree to become part of said team.
