Clemson history???

Jul 1, 2022, 6:42 AM

I was watching an interesting naval history video last night on YouTube and discovered there was a class of destroyers named Clemson. Per usual the first ship in the class was named Clemson so all destroyers that followed were part of the Clemson class. It was named in honor of Thomas A. Clemson, born 1820 and died serving in the US Navy in 1846 during the Mexican-American war. He died when his ship was caught in a hurricane off of Veracruz.

The Clemson was built in 1920 and served gallantly during World War II winning eight navel stars for its actions in combat.

Clemson is not exactly A household name to say the least. Was Thomas A. Clemson a relative of Thomas Green Clemson? Anyone know?

He was born in New Jersey and of course Thomas Green was from Philadelphia. But they’re not exactly that far apart and again Clemson is a rather rare and uncommon name.

You know the clinicians monitor and censor content on your ward don't you? By the way, your Anger Management group starts in a half an hour; looking at your posts the past day or so, you really need to be an active participant in your treatment plan.
