Sorry if this was discussed previously, but if so I missed it. The story is being reported in the sports media around the state now because the award will be given next month.

Well deserved recognition for this courageous young man. I have known Brian and his family for a long time. He was a great Clemson DB and punt returner. And as the cliche goes, he was a great football player but even a greater person.

The grit, determination, and courage he has displayed in battling his condition is truly inspiring.

Great young man from Alcolu. Played at Manning High School. Father was a school principal and instilled his good characteristics in him. His brother died tragically in an auto accident a mile from their house.

His father Ken was a good administrator with a wonderful dry sense of humor. His mother, Georgia, was Regional Director of Head Start and was a wonderful lady, too.
