Boys...I was just about to get in 85 coming home from the Broad River last

Night...I took this pic from the bridge at exit 96...do t know what caused it but I would bet it was some idiot trying to get where they were going 5 minutes earlier....

Be careful....you don't need to ride 10 feet iff someone's bumper!!

Spud

^^^ This should be poty ^^^

It ultimately slows down traffic. Now I've got to sit in bumper to bumper traffic while they scrape you off the road.

coming back across the bridge to take the secondary road down to the next exit....all while counting my blessings that I caught a two pounder on my way back to my truck and decided to fish 10 more minutes...Caught two more...and if Blacksburg was where I lived...I would have fished until dark! But, at 66, and having been waist deep in the river since about 12 o'clock fighting the current and the rocks....well, I hate to say it...but I was beat....

A former golfing buddy, now deceased, was a good driver, other than in one

respect. He was, without question, the WORST tailgater I have ever seen on the road. I remember one time, we were going to Goat Island to play golf, and there was only one other car on the road other than us. My buddy planted his car about a foot off the trunk of that car, mile after mile. I finally had enough, and told him EITHER PASS THIS GUY, OR PULL OFF THE ROAD UNTIL HE IS OUT OF SIGHT! It was ridiculous.

He told me I could have driven my own car if I didn't like his driving.

Then, he finally went ahead and passed the guy, like he should have done about five miles before.

:)

Yes...that stretch is under construction and it is SO BUMPY that I had new

shocks put on my 205 Chevy Silverado that only has 47K miles on it. I absolutely did not feel safe driving it on the 5 to 8 mile stretch....AND THE TRAFFIC STILL runs 70 MPH...it is the worst stretch of road in the state in my opinion.

That stretch of 85 is a death trap.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep. I may have to get off earlier and take a back road....***

I though they got rid of those chutes (death traps) concrete barriers on both sides of the lanes when several people were killed two years ago? What a disaster of a project and it's been going on too long.

Not as bad as it was but still scary. Those chutes were one lane for miles and there was no way to get emergency vehicles to crashes.

This is slowly becoming the norm on I-26 in Charleston. Unfortunately

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only going to get worse. I heard the other day that SC which now has 4 M

Jul 12, 2024, 3:48 PM

people will grow...in the next 25 years...to 18M....Now, I am not ready to kick the bucket by any means, but for someone who use to be able to knock on a farmers front door and ask if I could run my dogs over his fields....from hunting quail where Haywood Mall now sits, from going past a HUGE COVE on Clark Hill and seeing one boat in there and thinking,"Ok, he can have that one,I'll go to the next one"....well, I feel sorry for the next generation of outdoorsmen....

And to your point...85 and 26 need to be 4 lanes wide from border to border now.....

2025 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dang, turned the whole interstate on it's side!

Jul 12, 2024, 3:43 PM

But seriously - hate to see stuff like this.

I've had tailgaters on the interstate plenty of times. One fun little tactic I like to use - other than pulling over and just letting them go harass someone else - is to conveniently clean my windshield. Funny thing is, when you do that at 60+ mph, turns out a lot of the washer fluid blows right off your own windshield and onto the one of the car right behind you - especially if they're really close. Always fun to watch :)
