Baseball abbreviations that need to be retired ASAP…

“opp-o”
“velo”

Are air and syllables so expensive that they can’t say “opposite field” and “velocity”?

Can’t agree more.

Those terms take a grand game and turn it into something trendy. Great hitters have been going “opp-o” for a century without calling it that; then a 12-year old who bathes in SportsCenter calls it “opp-o” but can’t explain this new term to his grandfather who taught him the game.

I get the need for the new analytics and stats and their corresponding terminology, but the old concepts should still be called what they always have been (unless they have a checkered past) in order to maintain conceptual integrity across generations.

That’s part of what makes baseball so special.

I despise the term, “he popped him up.”

I hate when announcers say “he flew out to the SS”
No. You fly out to the outfield. You pop up to the infield 🤦🏻‍♂️
I also heard our guy say we won our 16th consecutive game in a row lol redundant much
