Attending a church whose core doctrines you disagree.

@Bigdog How can you faithfully attend a SBC church and allow your kids to be taught by them, when you totally disagree with all their major points of doctrine?
The following is the minimum statement of doctrine your church must adhere to to remain in fellowship with SBC https://bfm.sbc.net/bfm2000/#i

Likely to be seen and heard. Could be from a small town where people talk if you're not in church. Tbf growing up baptist I was full of doubt too and hated going.

“Minimum”
“Must adhere to”
Jesus said love god love your neighbor.
I couldn’t care less about your doctrines and core beliefs.

“ without any mixture of error”
I’ve noticed you never address when errors and contradictions are brought up. The only way you can believe this is to hold your nose and pretend they don’t exist.

The “church” doesn’t believe anything.
There are several hundred individuals that gather every Sunday who do not all see it the same way.
Nothing wrong with that.

You need to be worried about what Jesus thinks of your laws and traditions. Maybe you should read more of the gospels and less of Paul.

I have read The Gospels hundreds of times. You even say most of them are not accurate. In your view, why should I read them? If Jesus is not God, as you believe, why would I care what He says,?

Our priest said he welcomed those people. He said to think of the church as a hospital for sick souls rather than a private club open only to members who adhere to a set of rules and beliefs.

Why would you want to gather with a group whose stated beliefs are so opposite yours? Your pastor 100 percent believes the 2000 BFM. You believe none of it, but in his presence, you pretend you do. Seems quite crazy to me.

Deity of Christ. Inerrancy of Scripture. Virgin birth. None of those are little things. Those are the core of every major doctrine of your SBC church.

The Bible is not inerrant. That has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. If someone wants to believe that it is their business. I don’t go around picking fights with those I disagree with like you apparently do.
This is a forum for discussing these things. If you have a problem reading a different view point you shouldn’t log on.

I have no problem discussing those things. This thread is not about those things. This thread is about why would someone disagree with all the foundational doctrines of a church, yet still attend that church.
Just assume for this discussion that you are 100 percent correct in your beliefs. Why would you attend a church whose doctrinal statement affirms what you so strongly disagree with? Why would you keep your beliefs that you are so confident in, secret from the leadership of said church? Why would you allow your children to be taught such error?

You clearly do have a problem because you are making it personal asking me why I choose to spend time with family and friends I’ve known my whole life just because I don’t agree with them when it comes to religious matters.
Believe it or not you can respect people who see things differently than you. Try it sometime.

I respect people who see things differently from me. I don't respect a tare in church who keeps his beliefs secret and then gets online bashing a place he supposedly loves so much. I know your wife makes you go. That was obvious a long time ago.

Where do you see that in Scripture? Scripturally, Church is to equip the saints to go into the world and convert sinners. Church is for the saved, not the lost. The mission field is the world.

He actually did. Why do you rail against Christianity, yet allow your kids to be indoctrinated by it? SBC brand of Christianity at that?
I have a lot of objections to Islam. Because of that, I don’t attend a Mosque or drag my kids to a Mosque.
You disagree fully with The Baptist Faith and message, yet you allow your kids to be indoctrinated by it.

Paul never met the historical Jesus. He claimed to see him in a vision. Plenty of people have had those.
I’ll ask again, why do the words of Paul carry more weight than anyone else?
Stop attempting to deflect by insulting me personally and answer the question at hand.

The thread is about attending a church whose teachings are opposite yours belief. Paul’s writing is fully inspired by God. The church you attend believes that and teaches that. If you don’t, why would you expose your kids to those teachings you believe to be “lies”?

Because I believe the message at its core is harmless.
I firmly believe you should love your neighbor. Doesn’t have to mean I believe the man who said it was god.
Everything is not as black and white as you make it. But I understand why you think like that. You are in a belief system. You do not read the Bible for what it is. You are told what it is. I have been there.

Harmless? You think teaching your kids they must believe and adhere to what you see is a lie, or they will eternally burn in Hell is harmless? If you are about love and works, Mormon church would much better suit you than SBC. United Methodist would be right up your alley. SBC? No way man!

And he's answered it. He still gets some benefit from in, in spite of his differences of opinion regarding the core beliefs. I think there are a lot of people who do that; I did it for quite some time myself as I was trying to figure it all out. I don't know that I have, and I still enjoy church sometimes, even if I don't agree with much of what is taught.

I’ve never said anything the pastor said was stupid.
Starting a topic questioning the validity of a statement I’ve heard?
Guilty as charged.
If you can’t handle the heat stay out of the kitchen.
The fact that someone questioning what you believe bothers you should tell you something.

I go because the music is good, they have a lot of home cooked church wide meals, I’m in the golf club…those are a few reasons other than I like to keep the wife happy.
I do enjoy the fellowship and togetherness that a church brings especially during the holidays. Sorry if my reasons for going do not meet up to your and reynolds357 legalistic standards.

If holding to the doctrines of the church causes tares to uproot themselves and leave, then Praise The Lord. Thd primary function of. Church is not socialization. Pri ary purpose is equipping saints to go into the world and convert sinners. Not working too good for you. You are going into the world and opposing The Gospel. It is good for the church when people who believe as you do leave.
