Play along, please. For the sake of judging just how far fans would tolerate no real changes to the FB program, what if the following evolved:
Team standards became:
9 win seasons. 8 win seasons 7 win seasons 6 win seasons and a crappy bowl.
At what point in the evolution would fans demand Dabo be replaced and quit supporting the new standard?
At what point in the evolution would Neff actually replace Dabo?
At what point in the evolution would Dabo retire?
What if the new standard leveled off at 8-4 or 7-5, would fans be content with Dabo and still fill the valley on game day and still fill the Iptay coffers?
I think these are good questions because at some point, a standard has to be accepted by fans and administrators. What is that standard? No program can sustain itself w/o knowing the standard to be consistently met. So, let's set it up now. And if it is met, everyone knows to accept it and shut up. If it is not met, the Admin. Needs to take action to see that it is met. Coaches know, fans know, and admin knows.

When season ticket sales went down and attendance suffered. I believe Dabo would leave, citing the game has changed and he goes on to other worthy endeavors focused on helping young people. I don’t think he will put Clemson in a position to fire him. He has meant and provided for too much to the university and community.

Dabo has a lifetime contract and he knows it.
The standard will be shifted to whatever standard we meet that particular year.

I want a team I can be proud of.
The on-field product is about 2/3 of that. I want the on-field part of the team to play in the conference championship game every year … winning every year would be great, but at least be there. You were asking about the minimum were you not?
The off-field part of the team is important to me. No criminals … no non-students … no unsportsmanlike conduct penalties (sideline, off the field type penalties) … no team doctors getting guys on the field when not yet recovered … no poor band preparation … no ugly uniforms … no immoral/criminal coaches … no unacceptable bathrooms at the stadium … no alcohol in the stadium.
There’s more, but you probably get it. I want to project class. Aloha …

Exactly. Financial decisions have alienated us! Stadium lights that can been seen from Atlanta, 4 lane roads creating a city on the campus. Pull out all the shade trees and parking and put in a shrine to former players called Tiger Walk. This is a state University, but the board of Governors has lost sight of this entirely.

The win total is meaningless in the joke ACC. 0-2 vs sec is what matters

My standard would be beating ranked teams. Or at least competing on about the same level in a loss. And having an offense that can score against those teams. In the last four years what is our record against ranked teams?

We are failing because to keep up with our dynastic era of the 2010s, we needed to either beat Louisville (AT HOME!!!) or beat UGA (basically an away game). We also lost to a gamecock team in a game where Clemson controlled much of the play and found a way to lose to Cam Newton 2.0.
We are regressing. It hurts. As a child of the 1980s and early 1990s, I can understand the feeling now. Hubris is a terrible drug and a lousy partner. That's where we may be found if we lose to SMU. There will be no rock to hide behind.
