ACC NOTES

Undefeated Starts in 2024

Two of the remaining 12 undefeated teams in all of FBS hail from the ACC - Miami (6-0) and Pitt (5-0).
The Miami Hurricanes are 6-0 for the first time since 2017. Under head coach Mark Richt, the Canes started the season at 10-0 went 10-3 that season and reached the ACC Football Championship Game, falling to No. 1 Clemson 38-3.
The Pitt Panthers are 5-0 to start a season for the first time since 1991. The Panthers completed an undefeated non-conference slate for the first time in program history, going 4-0 this season.

Miami Hurricanes One of Two Bowl-Eligible Teams

Miami is one of only two teams in all of FBS football to be bowl-eligible after Week 6 of the 2024 season.
The Hurricanes and Indiana Hoosiers out of the Big Ten are the only teams that are 6-0 after Week 6 of the season.

Dabo Passes Bowden

With Clemson’s 29-13 ACC road win at Florida State on Saturday, October 5, Tigers’ head coach Dabo Swinney made ACC history with his 174th win.
Clemson’s Swinney surpassed the legendary Bobby Bowden (173) for the most career head coaching victories while leading an ACC program with 174.
Ironically, Swinney accomplished the feat against Coach Bowden’s old team of Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida, on the very field named after the Hall of Fame coach.
Swinney and Bowden are the only head coaches to lead an ACC program to 150 wins or more in the conference’s 72-year history.

Four Teams Ranked in the Latest AP and Coaches Top 25 Polls

The ACC had four teams ranked in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 Poll (October 6) - Miami (No. 6), Clemson (No. 10), Pitt (No. 22) and SMU (No. 25).
The same four ACC teams were ranked in the most recent top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll (October 6) - Miami (No. 6), Clemson (No. 11), Pitt (No. 24) and SMU (No. 25).
Three other ACC teams received votes in either of the top 25 national polls – Syracuse, Louisville and Virginia.

Conference Play Highlights Week 7

After eight conference games last week in Week 6, five of the ACC’s six games in Week 7 are conference contests.
Two of the four top-25 ranked teams will be in conference play this week, as No. 10 Clemson will play at Wake Forest (noon ET, ESPN) and No. 22 Pitt will host Cal (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

Close Games Continue in ACC Play

The ACC has been known for close games each year throughout conference play the last few years. Before the start of this season, the ACC had 73 league games decided by eight points or less over the last three years (2021-23).
The 73 one-touchdown score games came over 168 total conference games during the three years, a mark of 43.5 percent.
The trend has continued this season in 2024, as 10 of the 20 ACC league games to date have been decided by less than eight points.

ACC in Non-Conference Play

Through Week 6 of the 2024 college football season, the ACC is 41-13 overall in non-conference play. The 41 non-conference wins are the second-most among all FBS conferences.
Overall, the ACC has eight non-conference wins versus fellow Power 4 conference foes.
The ACC has recorded five non-conference wins over the other Power 4 conferences on the road.
