Nick Saban:

"But look, NIL is not really NIL. I mean, I think we all understand what it has become and what we have allowed it to become."

"Is this what we want college football to become?'

The NCAA has no ####### and has no ability

To control anything

They lost that inability many years ago and will not be able to rope it back in at this point.

College football as we once knew it is over snd the new norm is continually evolving as I type this right now

The NCAA knows they'll lose if they get taken to court.

Unfortunately the only way to stop the NIL wild west will be

through Federal legislation. It really turns my stomach to say that as I am very much opposed to just about any Federal Government involvement in most activities.

The Supreme Court and State Legislatures pretty much cut the balls off the NCAA's ability to control NIL and as a result NIL has become a facade for outright "pay for play" in college sports. The only way I can see to put some controls back on NIL that will withstand judicial scrutiny is through some kind of Federal legislation. Lord help us because most of the time Congress just ends up making things worse...

The universities could stop it anytime they want.

They just agree to one rule:

Anyone signing a grant-in-aid to the school counts against the scholarship limit until
A. He graduates.
or
B. Six years have passed since he first enrolled in school.

Tell the NFL to go set up their own minor league system.

But, the universities - including Nick Saban - don't want that too happen. There are very few universities (Board of Trustees, president, etc.) that care about academics for athletes. There are even fewer coaches that care about it. Dabo is one of the VERY few coaches that actually prioritize graduation for athletes. Most jsut give it lip service, sorta like a politician claiming he wants to balance the budget.
