70+ vs 13- baseball game

Cool story out of NC about a 70 & up team from Florida playing a 13 & under team from NC. We need more of these multi-generational interactions. The younger generations have much to learn from the older generations, but they rarely interact enough to really get to do so. Cool idea by whomever had it!

The Florida Storm, a 70-year-old-and-up baseball team, faced the Asheville Trailblazers, a team of boys 15-and-under at Bob Lewis Ballpark for a game full of laughter and lessons. The Trailblazers’ coach, Mark Schuurman, said he wanted his boys to learn that “Baseball is bigger than they are.”

“If we’re playing at this age, we grew up playing baseball, thinking about baseball, talking about baseball,” said Tim McGivern, a Florida Storm player. This baseball game was all about love for McGivern. He remarked that the Trailblazer’s are the future, but “our 13-year-old selves would give them a run”

Asheville Trailblazer’s Titus Schuurman added, “They’re good players. I didn’t expect that from 70-year-olds.” The Storm taught Schuurman to “Never stop being mobile, then when I’m these guys' age I’ll be able to do this, too”

The Storm has decades of innings behind them and this game was a moment for the Trailblazer’s to see how many innings they have ahead of them.
