Coach Swinney has been at Clemson as an assistant or head coach for 15 years. Over that time frame, GT owns an 8-7 edge over our Tigers. Since Paul Johnson became the Yellow Jacket head coach, he is 5-5 against Clemson.
It would make sense to me for Johnson and GT to think they can compete with the Tigers.
I have confidence that another great defensive effort will earn our guys a win over GT in Death Valley in the October and I'm hoping we can even up the series with the Yellow Jackets over the last 17 years.
Go Tigers!!

I'm not certain that I would look at the overall record for all those years, but rather at the most recent trend where CLEMSON is dominating GT. It's men against boys at this point. Let's see what he says after this year when GT has to travel to our house. It could get nasty as GT also lost the best QB they have had in years. They do not have the needed recruits to just re-load IMO. We will see.
GT is skeered.

For some reason gets the option so well that he is where the ball is before the pitch half the time. Gonna be ugly again this year.

I'm pretty sure in the game where deshaun got hurt, GT' defense scored more than their offense.

you do know that GT is 3-13 versus Ga over the last decade and a half. Ga lost by 3pts in 08, 6pts in OT in 14 and a one pointer in 2016. All easily could have been Uga wins....now answer your own question.

he knows how to defend them!(4-1) Only loss has been when that fluke injury happened to Watson, with Tigers tearing them up, until then.

I really don't get why GT is hanging on to this guy . He can't recruit worth a darn because he runs an ancient offense and he is surrounded by better teams with better outlooks . Then there are the results . Its been more than 5 yrs since they won the Coastal , they are dropping off each year it seems like and there wouldn't appear to be any change in their pecking order if they continue down the CPJ path . They should fire him and try again . jmo

They keep him because he has been successful within the constraints of their university. Saying he cannot recruit is way too simplistic. GT is a tough sell for several reasons. The primary issue is being accepted and being able to pass courses as they do not offer many or any of the easier majors like sociology or sports management. All majors must pass calculus and other stem courses which are out of reach for many athletes. They have also chosen not to invest in staff and facilities which hurt when comparing GT to schools like UGAy.

" All majors must pass calculus..." - Are you serious? No wonder they will have recruiting issues. I was a math major and calculus was rough on me. I can't see all majors requiring that stuff. Those courses definitely separate students in a hurry. Wow - I never knew about this. I almost feel sorry for their program now.

GT would have some very tough years ahead if they got rid of Paul Johnson. It's only been his triple option system that has kept them winning games the past several years because it allows them to be productive without the 5 and 4-star guys.

Even with terrible athletes, the old school triple option is still a deadly system that can level the playing field between a mediocre team and an elite team, provided the option team has discipline. You dont need to be big, strong, or fast, just disciplined with an effective blocking scheme like the cut blocks PJ uses.
Unfortunately, that discipline requires the entire team to be synched up, which doest always happen. However, as we've seen with PJ, every 4 years or so he fields a decent team. He'll get a phase of recruits in that work through the system, and when senior year comes around they can all run it well enough to go 9-3 regular and finish with an OK bowl win to eek out a 10 win season.
GT, being a school of people that have relatively zero rudimentary understanding of sports, is satisfied and dont care to demand anymore.

But but wait a minute. Deptula is saying again this year that Puwall Johnson is going to have the best QB & A&B backs he's ever had at GT. Not to mention the superior OL he's recruited over the years.
