Biden wants to put woman / person of color on Moon

I hadn't been keeping up with his ... the Biden Admin, flush with printed money, is allegedly willing to add ~ $1.1B to the ~ $26B NASA budget for lunar exploration. A person of color (woman) is part of Biden's agenda.
Bloomberg: First Moon Trips for Woman, Person of Color Get Budget Attention.

(?) So for all these years, the Little Green Men of color on the Moon were without any women of color?

Putting aside the issue of what gender or race our astronauts are, I can’t hardly think of a single thing I’m happier for my tax dollars to go towards than NASA and space exploration.
Nothing makes daily political squabbles seem quite so small as keeping in mind that we live on a spinning rock that is hurling through space, tethered only by the gravity created by the mass of a perpetual explosion of hydrogen that is 1.3 million X larger than our planet.
I consider exploration and increasing our understanding of the universe, it’s rules, and our place in it to be basically the highest priority human pursuit.

It's unfair that the moon is White so diversifying that rassist element with some person of color astronaut is a meaningful step in the right direction for "personkind".

Oh, and they say the moon is made of cheese...

White cheese, of course. And they tell you to say cheese when they take your pigs (the other White meat) so they can see your pearly White teeth.
White, white, white! It's up to our government to correct this.

Am I missing something here? The title makes it sound as if the entire plan is simply to put a woman/person of color on the moon and also that it's Biden's plan. If you read up on the program though, it's NASA that wants to include a woman/person of color as part of their plan that will plan to send 18 astronauts to the moon in total. Biden just happens to have approved the budget request from NASA.

It's differentiation for division and pandering's sake. I don't care what societal sub-categories my humanoid astronauts belong to.
I don't agree with the Supreme Court nominee filter, but I at least understand it, as I could see some believing that a person of their sex/ethnicity might represent them better. An astronaut though? Who cares what the person looks like that's putting moon dust in a baggie?

people who purport to desire harmony and unity (a desirable goal, no doubt) continually go out of their way to highlight, if not manufacture, our differences. Saying it out loud is not what gets it done, it's a cheap attempt at political points.

I'd prefer that it be "most qualified astronaut, period, and if they're a certain minority status, let's celebrate it", but if you want to go out of your way to utilize an astronaut from that demographic, that's fine, but do it behind the scenes.
I believe that it diminishes the accomplishment of the person when you go out of your way to (consciously or unconsciously) say that their selection criteria may or may not have been graded on a curve. Just like KBJ....her nomination as an AA woman would have been just as much celebrated for what it was if Joe hadn't said up front he was only considering her demographic. It's pandering that detracts from the accomplishments of the individual.
