Inexcusable for Wes to take that long to get out of Man

His feel for the game can't be that poor. Conn is the Co D-Coordinator and he's over part of the secondary. He should have step in sooner to make the adjustment to zone if Wes wasn't sensing the obvious. Everybody I was around watching the game was screaming for a change quarters earlier. It's troubling that Wes said that "we want to be a press man team" considering we don't have press man personnel. Our corners other than Nate are not very fast and lack experience. They also don't get to practice against quick twitch WRs very much because that's not the make up of our WR group (mostly tall slow guys). We're missing arguably 2 of our 3 best cover guys in Jones and Mukuba. You can't be that slow to adjust.

Dude walked up to a guy who was sitting at the bar and said; "Hey, I understand you're the guy who has been sleeping with my wife.". Dude at the bar just looked up and said, "So what?".

To me, it is inexcusable that a team with such inferior talent could force us out of man.

I am very well informed. You missed my point entirely. Wake brought in talent very inferior to what we recruit and then DEVELOPED them into what they have.

That’s the truth. We are so gifted up front that we should only have to play average man coverage in the secondary.
And playing cover 2 doesn’t mean you have to play zone, it just means you can’t blitz your line backers every down and you can’t bring 8/9 guys in the box

Every O line, including ours, holds. As long as you keep your hands in front of your chest, it does not get called.

Re: Wes adjustment: Calm environment to Chaotic environment

Pork Chop is clearly still in the process of making the adjustment from the calm environment (when a defensive analyst) to the chaotic environment of being a game-time D-Coordinator.
Darn right it took Pork Chop too long to recognize that his CBs were completely overwhelmed by Wake's (excellent) receivers.
He no longer has the time to dissect the plays and then come up with the Einstein solution. Most of us amateur football fans saw the mismatch being exploited by W.Forest after 2 or 3 series (with one happening in the first half and then the first two in the 2nd half).
It's not as if the CBs being overwhelmed was new to Pork Chop; watch re-run of LA Tech game.
So yeah, Pork Chop was far too slow in making the in-game / real-time adjustment.
Thank goodness he did make the adjustment before we were completely destroyed (and thank goodness that our offense played so well).
Let's see if Pork Chop can make the adjustment and change the D faster if something isn't working against NC State. He's reputed to be a smart guy, and we should have optimism that he'll be faster next time.

with football/ defensive X's and O's talk...
We have always played the slow mesh that way. That's exactly how BV played it. We stop the run, and dare QBs and receivers to make enough plays against pressure and press man to win the game. We basically say "you can't make enough".
The reason we play it that way is b/c we do not want to allow them to control the LOS and shorten the game with the run. That is exactly what WF would have done had we gone to the 2 high look earlier. It's a numbers game.
Should our DBs have played better? Absolutely. But we didn't get any pressure with our DL, and that is why we have always been willing to man up outside and dare people to beat us.
Hartman is a gamer, and he made the plays. Kudos to him.
It's not as simple as "just switch".

wasn't working. Plus, we've got a bunch of guys on our D-Line that's suppose to make a lot of money next year in the NFL. Much earlier in the game they should have sat those staring D-linemen down and said, "You are the strength of my football team. I'm helping out my young guys in the secondary. You guys figure out a way to get home with 4. If you can't figure it out, I'll put another 4 in that will!"
It looks like mid way through the 4th they finally told them just that and low and behold they actually got it done. It could and should have been done sooner.

It’s more than just telling the D-line to play harder

You have to run and disguise different blitz and pressure packages.
We had limited pre-snap movement and we were not mixing in twists and stunts up front.
We were playing very simple basic fronts up front trying to rely on talent alone to overpower them and it didn’t work.
I don’t understand why its so hard to admit when we get out-coached. Wes himself said the effort was there. They had a good plan and made great adjustments and we didn’t.

Good breakdown!
I get what the OP is getting at as well though.
My thing is thank goodness it did happen. The offense was moving the football; so no need to panic and abandon the gameplan(i guess was the though process early on). But, the adjustment was made and we got away with adjusting a bit late.

I wouldn't rag on Goodwin quite so strongly, but in the stands, it was obvious than manning up was not working for us. I thought we wouls adjust at half-time, but it took another full quarter, for us to switch to Tampa Two - which worked fairly well.

He switched when the time started becoming a factor

We needed more on the line to limit their running. When time started running down, they needed to throw it. Had he switched too soon, then they would have run all over us and probably scored again...
With all of the holding calls not called.

I would rather take my chances on them stringing together 13 six yard runs than 2 forty yard passes.
