Nest Thermostats (or Ecobee)

1

Jan 5, 2023, 11:54 AM

Greenr's new house has a single system, but two thermostats, one upstairs and one downstairs. Both are Honeywell Programmable but not Wifi and, TBH, I like to be lazy and have the wifi option.

Question is this, can you replace two thermostats with a single thermostat downstairs and a "room sensor" upstairs and accomplish the same thing, or do I need to replace two with two so I can control temps upstairs versus downstairs?

Greenr is being cheap and doesn't want to spend $400 for this upgrade.

You mean you didn't take your thermostat from your original

Had already packed the screwdrivers and tuna cans

Let's see. $400 to have a wifi thermostat?

I think I'd get that POS truck fixed instead. That, or hooker and blow.

Fix it? Isn't he selling it?

So, let's all get drunk, and go to heaven!

Your reading comprehension schtick is terrible

Truck is fixed

This move got you all mad. Why are you so mad?

Just a sec here, Greenr.

Your post about your truck was talkin about it should and this and that. Never saw anything indicating it was fixed.

I DEMAND AN APOLOGY, GRINGO!

My apologies...It was in the shop up until yesterday when

I paid the man and got her back.

Big Red is back in business, the truck, not a certain Jounger's wife. She may be too, I am just not sure about it.

STILL waiting on noods of red.

The queerkid's wife, not the truck.

Seems like someone that lived in a beach shack would just

leave the windows and doors open all the time to soak up all of the wonders of living in a tropical paradise.

Ineligible might just do that. Greenr is not living in a

beach shack though.

Oh.

Regular shack. Now I see why you need a thermostat. Pallets don't insulate as well as palm fronds, obviously.

Its true, I did..and would.***

I had to do this very thing

Jan 5, 2023, 2:04 PM

Need to replace both thermostats w/ Nest...I recommend Nest, btw.

We also have the temperature sensor thingy for dawghater2toddler and then will be switched for future dawghater2baby to keep temps regulated in their room

I would do some digging on the home warranty that came w/ your house at closing. I was able to expense portion of the thermostat costs....also don't remember them being $200 a pop but I reckon that's inflation for ya.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure I'm sold on the nest thing yet.

Jan 5, 2023, 2:13 PM

New house came with one.

I was all "this is cool I guess" until one day it freaked out and turned the heater on on its way to be 84 inside the house...on a 75 degree day. And then again later that night.

And then again, about 3 weeks later. When I came home that time, it was blazingass hot in the house.

I examined the "schedule" and found one entry in there it kept going back to and deleted it. Then about 2-3 weeks later, it freaked out again. I deleted and reset the whole thing and started all over again, and it hasn't done since then...but I'm watching it.

Closely.

And just the Nest app doesn't really control the whole thing. You really also need the google home app to completely control it..which seems stupid.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

technology is tough for the older generations

Jan 5, 2023, 2:16 PM

I get it man.

Thought you were in IT?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I am.

Jan 5, 2023, 2:20 PM

This was not a human interface issue.

Thing was/is(?) jacked up.

if it does it one more time, it will be a trashcan issue, because i'll go right back to a simple digital thermostat,

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And why two apps?

Jan 5, 2023, 2:21 PM

I get it that they are trying to integrate everything into the Google Home thing..but why not just go ahead and do it?

Thats some sloppy product management there

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

don't disagree

Jan 5, 2023, 3:43 PM

we're still using the nest app, b/c I'm a geezer at heart.

I think your issue is with the auto-adjustment feature. turn that part off...

sorry for poking fun man

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I liked the Nest at the last house. There is an "E" version

Jan 5, 2023, 2:26 PM [ in reply to I had to do this very thing ]

for less but I am not sure it works with my system. The regular Nest is about $190 each on Amazon. I think retail is $250.
