Agree there is serious talent issues all over at LB and safety , and corner . The Dline is just baffling how they can be so soft and bad .

Allen is not the one blowing assignments, nor signaling the plays onto he field. Terrell coming on a corner blitz with Hanfin hugging the line of scrimmage tells me there are communication issues, meaning guys do not know the correct play.

Allen is the guy who “coordinates” what each individual player does in any given defensive call.
The DC must also assess each player’s physical abilities (T.Allen probably does that well) and where on the learning curve each player is with respect to knowing where to go and when to start going there.
With so many busts this year by our safeties … especially #6 … one would think that T.Allen would make adjustments as far as calling for ~ exotic blitz packages when #6 is in the game.
That #6 keeps blowing coverages again and again and again is evidence that T.Allen either hasn’t taught the Safeties well enough or he thinks he knows that our Safeties have now ‘got it.’ Either way T.Allen gets the “F” grade.

Coach Reed is probably really sick and worn down about now.
Eason just don't seem to bring that energy. Brentson Buckner would have been an interesting choice.

Well Allen was “already taken” too - by Penn State. Leonhard was with Denver and still is. I just wonder if he turned us down or if Dabo made the wrong decision again.

Who? Oh I don’t know the defensive coaches HE hired. You know their names as well as I. We can all say he doesn’t have the talent but shouldn’t we expect improvement from last year. Surely you aren’t suggesting we are better on defense than last year?

I say that because I actually saw a poster saying he wished we had Wes back.
54th in defense obviously must improve, but you can’t judge any coach 8 games into his first season.
We have some guys who know what to do and aren’t.

Tom Allen checked most of the boxes. Most of us, probably including you though you won’t admit it, were excited about Tom Allen at the time. I was. But I agree he was obviously a mistake. But we have position players playing key spots they didn’t come here to play. We have to stop losing defensive backs we have committed. It happens every year! We have to lock down true safeties. Good ones and then coach them better.
