Name all the programs with better overall success since 2009

than what Dabo has done at Clemson. Count every year. 2010. Last two years. Nobody cherry pick. Count the whole body of work. How many of the 130 FBS programs have done better?

1. Alabama (only one for sure)
2. Ohio State (likely but debatable)
3. UGA (not really, but debatable)

Who else?

Oklahoma? Hail no
Michigan? Not even remotely close
Literally no one in the Pac-12
LSU? Not close
Who?

If it's only 1, 2 or 3... is that not the definition of elite? 97% percentile? 98th?

Compare the resources of those other 3 schools. Look at the actual numbers. Factor that in. THINK.

Winning 10 years is 10 times harder than winning 3 years. One hit wonders far more common than dynasties.

Hard to argue any of that However

UGA wins three in a row they will vault to #1

Yes and if we do, we are in the convo for #1.***

I'd say it goes as follows (going since 2009)
-Alabama (clear #1, they rarely lose)
-Clemson
- UGAg (if they win 3 in a row they will take our spot sadly)
- Ohio State
- Oklahoma

I get it, be grateful for the past. And I am, but ask yourself, does it not feel like maybe we have slipped from the perch the last couple of years? This really needs to be the year we get back to the playoffs with all of the talent we have. If we can't make it back this year then I think we have to reassess where we are and how we close the gap because the other guys aren't standing still anymore.

We were blessed with things Dabo did to make us ultra-competitive but the market changed on us and NIL and the portal are leveling the playing field, and what used to be perceived as advantages for our program are not as effective as they used to be. It doesn't make Dabo any less of a coach or a recruiter but it does change some things that we may need to deal with to stay relevant and get back to the mountain top.

You may feel we have dropped off as a program...

but I don't.

2 years ago we lost both coordinators (a couple years after losing another Coordinator). We have a 5-star QB who looked good filling in for Trevor Lawrence the year before. He has a shockingly (to everyone) bad year. And our WR recruiting missed a couple of years. So we fall inside of the top 15 and win 10 and 11 games, win another conference championship and keep up our recruiting.

In response to this short-term setback, Dabo goes out and nabs the literal best OC in the country. Now the QB we missed on is gone and we have ANOTHER 5-star QB in the wings ready to go.

We lost the best defensive coordinator in our history and we still have a top-15 defense (maybe better) coming back.

Clemson's PROGRAM is strong. It was an unbelievable triple shock we sustained, losing both coordinators, missing on a QB and the COVID/NIL/PORTAL sh*tstorm that threw everything into chaos.

The point about the "past" isn't to lean on it to feel better about the present. It's called EVIDENCE that we are probably in good hands. Our program is strong.

Fair enough, but if we don't make the playoffs again this year, with the talent we have, I'm not sure how we paint it as anything less than a drop off from our heydays.

Teams are generally either on the rise or on the fall. I just think we need a bounce back year to prove we are the former and not the latter.

If we have a 12-2 year and finish in the top 5-6 I would

argue we are still on the right path even without the playoffs.

If we kill the coots and finish in the top 10 then many will feel better.

If we fall further this year it will definitely cause me to change my perception of the health of our program. I expect improvement from last year, but our opponents may improve as well.

10/15/2018 the portal was "launched".......

it's no coincidence that was the PEAK of our program.

2019 - we still had elite talent, but were beaten badly by a transfer QB (not a portal guy technically) in Joe Burrow.......I give us a pass that year.

2020 - beaten badly by another transfer QB in the semis.

2021 - lost 3 times regular season

2022 - lost to all 3 power 5 OOC teams we played........but won the conference.

on the national stage there's no question that we've "slipped" the last 4-5 years . Refusing to fill talent deficiencies quickly (ie portal) has been a big issue.

I will say that this "SHOULD" be the year we should return to "ELITE" status and win a playoff game if we're as good as a lot of the fans on here say we are...........we shall see....

Why don't you apply for the coaching job so you can use the portal,.

You are overconfident and your expectations are distorted.

You can't take two seasons, after all the massive transition that took place, and declare a "peak" for our program has been confirmed.

The run we had was insane. To "expect" being in the top 4 every single year is delusional. Especially with the inferior resources we have. We are not Ohio State. We are not UGA. This is math. This is not emotions. Dabo has to be the Dabo that allowed this miracle story to happen in the first place. The NIL and portal work better for schools with more alumni, national fanbases and more money.

Clemson has to have an approach that gives Clemson a shot at a Natty. And we have the perfect system for that angle.

If you think arrogant message board rhetoric will magically grow our fanbase or double our revenue then you are mistaken. You have to look at things more holistically.

If you want Dabo to stop being Dabo, you are likely advocating for Clemson to be harmed. If you want to remove Dabo and hire a coach who shares your opinions, you are likely advocating for Clemson to be harmed.

We are in a great place right now. Neither one of us can draw final conclusions about our "peak" being in the past because of one factor.

How am I overconfident?

and yes, the peak of our program to date is a 44-16 victory over saban & Alabama........Not only was it our best team in program history, but in the top 5 conversation of best college football teams ever.

Now do the last two years.***

She wants you to talk about DJ tho.

2

Because somehow DJ means Brownell isn’t a mediocre “coach” that doesn’t belong at a P5 school.

Try looking at the most recent seasons rather than the last decade plus

if you want to have any semblance of objectivity as to where we stand as a program in 2023.

No one doubts that we have had a great run the last 10 years. It has been well-documented and we are all very proud of it.

Unfortunately, the most recent seasons we’ve played have seen us underachieve relative to expectations, our talent level, and our investment in the program. This is not a good trend we are on right now, assuming that our goal is to be a top 5 program and compete for national championships.
