Will ND being left out be the final straw

And force them into the ACC? They have to understand that if they were in the ACC Coastal, they would likley have a rematch vs us and if they won they would probably be in. if it comes down to a 1 loss ND and a 1 loss OU, and ND is left out because of no conf champ ( even though they would have a better loss and would have destroyed the team that handily beat OU) how are they going to justify staying independent in this new system? I know it comes down to money and the NBC contract, but if they are continually left out how will they accept that?

They still won't join. They want that independent money.

The best situation is for The Big XII and ND to be left out

Force ND to join the ACC and be placed in the Coastal. The Big XII has to pay through the nose to get Houston and SMU or Rice back to establish a playoff . Texas A&M is set in the SEC.

Houston yes, but they can do much better than SMU or Rice. When the Big XII expands it will be either BYU, Boise St, or Cincy in addition to Houston.

I would love to see ND join full time and somehow be able to get Penn State to the ACC. If we, FSU, ND, UNC, GT, Louisville, and Penn State were solid on a constant basis I believe the ACC would get some more credit. You win the conference with those teams and no one will really question your schedule.

CFC will go to 8 games soon. ND knows this & will not be "forced" into anything as long as they continue to win & be a highly ranked program. In the long term the 8 team format favors them as there will be 3 spots for teams that did not when one of the Power 5 championships

Hopefully so. Would love to steal Penn State but in reality it will probably be Uconn or Cincy. In hindsight I wish we took Uconn over Syracuse, they are worthless

I doubt it really. It's not as if they CAN'T play for a NC with their current situation. They made the title game under the BCS, and they would be in the final 4 this season had they not lost to Clemson. I mean, in most conferences other than the SEC you're left in a similar situation as ND is right now we're you're just hoping enough things go right for you to get in. Just like Clemson would most likely not be in the top 4 this season had the ND gone the other way.

a friend of mine insists that we would have to pick up Navy. I agree with this and think they would be a good addition. Great history and academics. Additionally, they are in a recruiting hotbed. Finally, this would get us to 16 teams. If we are able to get the NCAA to change the championship format as it is currently written, it would be possible to break down the conference into 4 4 team pods and have a 3 game conference mini play off with semifinals and finals. I would personally love to see this, although it would mean one less week of rest before bowl season.

get in CCG. Don't like the idea of a three game playoff for conference champion.

I agree that it still wouldn't compel them to join a Power 5. They revel in their independence for a number of reasons.
That said, their being left out of the Top 4 MAY provide the next biggest national argument towards an 8-team CFP. Which I would be just fine with

playoff, ND being dropped down late and left out is probably the single next biggest thing that would cause an outcry for expansion to 8 teams. All that bead clacking makes a lot of noise.
