Why is "They didn't want to be there" an acceptable excuse?

Dec 12, 2015, 7:43 AM

Should a school retain a coach who has this attitude?
Should a coach recruit players who have this attitude?
Has anyone tried this approach in a business setting?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but why is it ok?

It's not a thing .
It is a measly , worthless excuse used by poor sports and angry losers.

it is a worthless excuse.

I don't believe that college kids who work all their lives and dream of playing in bowl games don't want to be there. As an strong competitor should be, they want to be there. It's just a lame excuse for their fan base.

Now for this game, at least after we beat their worthless sooner azzes they won't have this excuse. I'm sure there will be other excuses though.

"The refs beat us" "if we didn't have those 3 turnovers" "Bob Stoops is terrible in big games" "Clemson never got called for all the holding"

Can't wait to see them.

Cause they wanted to be embarrassed on national tv??? It's just an excuse for a delusional fan bad for a bad loss

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It doesn't. All that matters is the game.

Dec 12, 2015, 8:30 AM

If you say you didn't want to be there, you're saying your team lacks character and lacks respect for their school and their fans. That is WAY worse to me than saying that we just got beat on any given day.

I really don't care...

Dec 12, 2015, 8:45 AM

as long as Clemson wants to be there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even though some bowls can be anticlimactic for teams...

Dec 12, 2015, 8:54 AM

Or the coach/coaches have taken jobs elsewhere (or have been let go)...or some teams grossly underestimate the competition, ESPN had to come up with a sorry excuse for when their darlings lose bowl games. If true, it would be a horrible statement of a team's character.

Case in point - UF and Northern Illinois a few years ago. The Gators just "didn't want to be there". When in reality we know that their coach was terrible and another ESECPN hype machine was exposed. Sore losers say it. Also used for most of the SEC west that lost bowl games last year.

Only works as a sec-scuse***

As a player and coach, YOU represent your school

Dec 12, 2015, 10:59 AM

Is that a respectable way to represent? GET OFF YOUR BUTTS and PLAY EVERY GAME TO WIN!!! So, NO, it's no excuse, and anyone who uses it should be ashamed.
