Have the flu. Don't think they're very effective but this year the shots are different. Instead of protecting against 2 strains they protect against 4. First time that's been done. Made me feel lousy for a day and have a dead arm. But anyway it's different this year. They may actually work.
In the past they just meant the strain not in them went around. With 4 strains there's a good chance they will help a lot more.

Every year for at least the last 20

So, the idea is if it helps, even 50% of the time, it may stop spreading the flu to people who cannot get the shots for health reasons, so just like wearing masks, getting a vaccine is helping others and hopefully you.
Add: what is the downside of getting one? Sore arm?

want everything they are putting into the flu shot. My doc tells me I dont need one, so I dont get one. I had my yearly physical two weeks ago and he asked me if I was and I said "nope" and he agreed.
I think with the mask mandate and less travel, I will be ok.

nah, two different reasons
Oct 4, 2020, 9:26 PM
|
|
1) I remember being shortages of the flu shot in the past so my non-selfish nature is to always pass it up so sickly people who need it can have one instead of me. May not be this way anymore, I don't pay enough attention..
2) I never had the flu in my adult life, never been sick, or even had a prescription for any medicine. Strongest drug I've ever had in my system is a Tylenol or a Claritin pollen allergy pill. Kinda worried any drug introduced into my blood stream might screw up my natural healthy immune system. Figure best left alone until I need it.

twice.

once when daughter was pregnant with first grandchild, once a couple yrs ago when Mrs No just hounded me to death about it. Then, this past spring I got the flu. And as you get older, your immune system gets weaker. So I'ma start getting them annually. I heard to wait until mid-Oct so it would last the whole flu season, so that's my plan.

we had it bad a few yrs ago and it went through our production floor like wildfire.
Hoping this season will be mild as a result of many attention to hand-washing, social distancing, and mask wearing.

for about 2 weeks. Anytime before that it only lasted a couple days. I get a flu shot every year now.
1. I don't want to get sick like that ever again if I can help it. 2. It is very costly to be out of work for two weeks.
