Their brand is a national one, and their media contract for football is lucrative. If they can continue to get better money as an independent, and they are still able to schedule the games needed to fill their schedule and compete for a playoff spot, why would they join a conference?
I'd like to have them as full ACC members too, but I can't blame them for staying in their current situation.

around $50 million per year for the rights to broadcast its football games, in addition to the $17 million the university receives from the ACC, for a combined total of $67 million.
Clemson received roughly $44 million from the ACC in revenue sharing 2024. The University is projecting about $50 million in 2025, followed by a large jump to $79 million in 2026 when the new revenue sharing model goes into effect.
