David hood- what changes to make

I respect David Hood but do not agree with his initial premise. It's not about comparing our talent to what we have now to 2018. Our recruiting has been at an high level- certainly good enough to win consistently. Having said that, the answer is not as complicated as we are trying to make it. What is it? When players are late to the ball, out of position, committing too many untimely penalties and playing with questionable effort then one big question arises. What is the level of coaching intensity occurring during the week that emphasizes proper technique and above all- physicality? I think the answer is obvious- inadequate coaching at multiple levels. The buck stops with the head man and the first step for him is to discard the self-denial and return to the fundamentals upon which he built his program. This is the only way foward.

Well said. Perhaps Dabo needs to remember Johnny Vaught.

"The worst thing a coach can do is stand pat and
think the things that worked yesterday
will win tomorrow. Intelligent changes must be made." - Johnny Vaught

Dabo did this when he started.

Yes. Dabo's first official act was to fire Rob Spence.

Watching the game Saturday I told my wife, “I wonder if we hit at all in practice anymore?” Dabo says practices are good but they don’t translate to the game. I wonder how much practices are actually like the game situation. Sure looks to me like the team is trying to do walk-throughs in the games. First time someone gets hit hard they cough up the ball. Defense looks like they are playing touch or just trying to throw runners to the ground with their hands.

You are spot on and that's the same issue...

you see at any level of football when it comes to those same mistakes. Its very apparent our players just aren't coached at a 'hard' level and without a doubt very little threat of losing a position over how you play.

Im still dumbfounded that no one jumped Wesco's butt in the GT game when he dropped that 3rd down pass. Right in front of Dabo and he just walked away and Riley softly approached him. I'd ripped his butt (as would most high level coaches) and let him know if he drops another one, he sits by me. Ironically enough, that's how Dabo got his chance to play...high level guys dropping passes when they shouldnt be.
