My earliest baseball memories were the Saturday Game of the Week on NBC. He was paired with Vin Scully by then and on the rare occasion they would show the Braves with Murphy and Horner it was a special day.

My parents refused to get cable so I could watch on TBS as they thought it best I not watch too much TV.

Very fond memories of Mr. Garagiola. Class act and he seems to have enjoyed a life well lived.

Absolutely! Great voice.

I no longer follow baseball, but in my youth, Garagiola, Vin Scully, and the Carays - Harry and Skip, were great to listen to.

And of course JP, the Voice of the Tigers, was really the soundtrack of my childhood.

Ah radio. Those were the days.

I'm a dynosaur now, but the first bb announcers I can remember were Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reece . Old Diz would say "he slud into third bass .

And when describing a couple hugging in the stands...

Mar 25, 2016, 6:46 AM

He said, "look at this, he kisses her on the strikes and she kisses him on the balls."
