I remember when they camped in the 90s and didn't pack any water and hiked through flatland pine trees.

Camping in Cootlumbia in June-August?

J/K, as long as you are ON or IN moving water, you will survive. Rivers are nice because they're cooler. Hot spells and Lake Murray can feel like a bath tub, and you will sweat in the water.
Maybe blow some coin on one of these and let us know if it werks?
https://www.icybreeze.com/Beat the heat wherever you are with the IcyBreeze portable air conditioner. It's an ice cooler and portable air conditioner all in one. Assembled in the USA.

hot as bawls. "Camping" is in quotes since we had a bunch of people around us in nearby (earshot and visible) range and had electricity and running water. One guy brought a big standup fan that definitely helped, and we all had small fans for the tents that also helped. And a TV. We dragged a TV out there. And a couple of us got poison ivy, which sucked, so don't do that.

Might help a tiny bit, might help a lot. But better than if you didn't have it. WAY more important will be weather that holds up at night so you can keep the rain fly off. Putting that thing on is like adding a sweatshirt to the mix.

time, so not sure what to compare it to. Wide and shallow at the Givhans landing--probably 5' at the middle-ish. Boat traffic was almost exclusively jon boats, and mostly the same couple doing laps up and down the river for some reason. Saw a group of tubers put in and thought that would be fun, until we noticed they were still within 150' of us some 20-25 minutes later. That's some slow moving water right 'chere. I think it would have taken a couple hours to get to the bridge maybe a quarter mile down river.

You're going the wrong way to camp this time of year. Camping or doing anything in Columbia this time of year sounds miserable. That being said, I hope you have a good time with your fam.

FYSA: This is a fishing trip, not a camping trip

However, we are forced to spend one night on the river. What I can pack on my kayak is limited to......my kayak.
Current lisp:
Tent Packed tarp Sleep pad Sheets Dry bag Bug spray Flashlight Spare clothes Medium Cooler 1 gallon water 10 bottles water 4 meals Snacks Rope Dry box 2 batteries Trolling motor Motor mount

Tent Packed tarp Sleep pad Sheets - Just use the tarp.
Dry bag
Bug spray - dont be a wuss. just put it extra heavy on before you leave...
Flashlight - I think you meant fleshlight... and I think you can just use your hand for the weekend.
Spare clothes - uhhh no. dont be wuss.
Medium Cooler - uhhh no
1 gallon water - just bring one of those straws that filters river/lake water
10 bottles water
4 meals - catch and eat fish. no meals.
Snacks
Rope - okay, this is legit.
Dry box just put your stuff in that dry bag 2 batteries - yes Trolling moto - yes Motor mount - yes
might want to bring a fishing pole, some sort of lure/bait, and some way to start a fire. maybe a paddle also. Don't forget wallet, phone, and keys.
