As a Clemson fan what do you tell other fanbases?

Living outside of South Carolina most of my colleagues and acquaintances are from other fanbases. It is easy to be a Tiger fan right now because of the winning, but those that are into recruiting seem to really have a pessimistic view of college football ethics. Most, particularly SEC (Auburn, UF, UGA) fans just concede that everyone is cheating and players get paid all the time. In my few attempts to dispute the claim I usually end up sounding condescending.
Do I think that Clemson is perfect? No, but I do think Dabo tries to run a very clean program even to the point of turning down recruits who get involved with other schools. I actually think this is a key to his success because the players are not hung up on making money and the NFL, but more about the team. The sad part is even though the entire country can see the success Dabo is having it is only Clemson fans who truly understand how special what is doing really is because he is doing it the right way.

Been a slow process gathering momentum as opposed to an ole miss that came from nowhere to have the number one class in a year. But then ultimately I just kind of let them say their thing and then smile when we win

This feels like every conversation I have with them. To most Clemson did rise as suddenly as Ole Miss. Even leading up to the Orange bowl with Oklahoma many thought we were the underdog.
It is almost getting easier to explain that Clemson is the national champion and is still not top 5 in recruiting because we are doing it the right way.

I live a long way from SC and I get the Clemson came out of nowhere talk. I tell them that Clemson has a foundation. The 81 championship put a trophy in the case and though mediocre, Clemson has had a winning record or .500 all but once since 1999.
Dabo Swinney is a great recruiter but the 2013 UGA game sold America on Clemson. You did't have to be there and you could feel the electricity. I remember folks from here texting saying how awesome it looked on TV. I believe that LSU and UGA back to back is when Clemson quietly turned the corner.

last month with family from across the state, Oklahoma and Arizona, and every one of them were highly complimentary and respectful of Clemson and our program.
The appearances in the CFP along with the National Championship won that respect along with comments that the title game was one of the best games most had ever seen. In fact, several relatives had gathered to watch that game and said they were up and yelling..."You might have thought we were Clemson grads" was the comment.
Thus, I really didn't have to say a word.

Favorite moment of the ACC Championship game weekend came when 2 cane fans got on the elevator with me. I was decked out in Clemson gear so they struck up a friendly conversation...”So, what do you think?” What I thought was we were going to blow them out but did not want to come across as that cocky, arrogant fan...so after a thoughtful pause I replied,”You don’t want to know what I think”. They laughed and got all bowed up and said. “Yeah? That’s great! That’s just what Notre Dame thought”. I didn’t blink, didn’t even crack a smile. I just replied “We ain’t Notre Dame”. They immediately shut up. Looked at each other for a moment then said “Yeah...yeah I guess you’re right”. They knew right then and there the ### kicking that was about to come. Elevator doors opened and I just told them good luck and walked off with a huge smile

I wear Clemson colors all over the country and countless times have folks told me how impressed they were with Dabo. I know some hardcore bama and uga fans that have told me the one coach they would want their sons playing for was Dabo.

Here’s what you tell them:
Dec 13, 2017, 5:34 PM
|

1. We’re #1
2. Don’t talk to me about how we must cheat because so many other programs cheat. When you hear about credible allegations of cheating against Clemson in the modern era, let me know. Until then just spare me. We run a clean sports program. Period.
3. Any questions? Refer to the information listed in 1. above.

Google the Wall Street Journal Grid of Shame. It plots the major college programs on an x-y plot. Programs on the right side of the grid win more than programs on the left side of the grid. And at the top of the grid are those programs that are the least shameful as measured by run-ins with the law by players or rules violations by coaches or university representatives or boosters. Clemson is in the upper right corner.

I tell people who are not familiar with Clemson that......

1. Clemson is a great university and has been for a long time. We have a strong and long history of producing a lot of fine officers who have served our country well and that lately, we've been recognized regularly as one of best 25 or so public universities in the nation.
2. I tell'em that we are relatively small school that produces graduates with very strong and loyal ties to Clemson and to each other.
3. I tell we've been playing very good football for 75 years plus and have won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship more than any other team, that we've played in the Sugar, Cotton, Orange and Gator Bowls many times. I'd tell'em it is not an accident that our stadium has held 80,000 people for the last 35+ years or that we've won two national championships.
4. If they will listen long enough, I'll probably mention that we have a great winning tradition over the past 40 years and actually have a higher winning percentage over that time frame than Southern Cal, Texas, Auburn, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Louisiana State among many many others.
5. Then I invite them to come to Clemson for a game.
Go Tigers!!
