Pediatrician perspective on today's game

Sep 25, 2021, 9:59 PM

So today was not a good day for the Tigers. We didn't look good on offense. We had far too many injuries on defense. The officiating wasn't great. And NC State came away with the win.
But you know what? I'm a pediatrician. I'm working this weekend. I'm seeing kids with Covid (and lots of other problems) and kids who have family members with Covid, some of them really sick. So many of my patients have lost family members. So many kids have ended up in the hospital.
Football is a game. It's a game that Clemson has played very, very well for quite some time now. This year, not so much. But it's still a game. And I still love my Tigers.
Everybody stay safe. Be well. And Go Tigers!

We had a MD360 doctor tell us our pediatrician was wack

Sep 25, 2021, 10:03 PM

today! 4 yr old has HUGE tonsils. Pediatrician has repeatedly said "nothing to worry about". Took our daughter to the dentist this week, they brought up the tonsils. Went to MD360 today with 4 year old having a fever... Double ear infection - Negative Covid. Doc there brought up the tonsils and referred us to an ENT.

So, what's up with pediatricians ignoring tonsils now?

I'll send my insurance info if needed.

So docs hate removing tonsils in young children unless it is truly necessary. Pretty high post-operative complication rate compared to other "routine" ENT surgeries. Big tonsils, in and of themselves, are not typically a problem and shouldn't be removed just because they are large. But if the child is getting recurrent cases of pharyngitis, particularly strep pharyngitis, or if the child has obstructive sleep apnea, then the large tonsils should be evaluated. Hope that's helpful!

Yeah, that is helpful

I think with 6 ear infections in 2 years, 3 cases of strep and the fact that the tonsils are touching and she's started snoring, this doc today decided we need an ENT to look at her.

Thanks for the response!

Wait, What?

one doc calling another a whack. Is that the same thing as football fans complaining about bad games?
