If you look closely at that last touchdown run by bama

It almost looks like #1 for the coots stops, puts his hands up, and lets the runner by him

He did. He gave his team a chance by doing

That. Otherwise bama runs the clock down and kicks a chip shot to win

Never a guarantee that Bama makes chip shot FG to win.

Blocked FGs happen; it is not rare for blocked FG to be returned for TD.

Very dumb decision by Gamecock player to not tackle the Bama runner. If that is what he was coached to do in that situation, then the coach(es) that taught him that need to be promoted (because I want more of that from Gamecocks).

Or a bad snap. If you’re SC, make the tackle. If you’re Bama, get the TD. It was a gamble to let him score, but I think there was a bigger chance to stop the FG.

I have never in my life saw a team purposely let someone score in a tie game with 30 seconds left…blows my mind

It's a growing strategy, because if you dont get the ball back you can't score. Obviously you don't do that if you're up 3 or more. And you don't with a long FG. They weren't trying to let them score *unless* the first down had been made which put them at around the 10 at worst. You also don't do that under 30 seconds.

I think theres some validity to the strategy.

There’s a very small chance the game goes into overtime in either situation, and you likely feel more in control of your fate with the ball.

He did. Let them score to have time for a comeback. It’s a risk, though. I say if you’re Bama, get the points when you can. A chip shot field goal is never a sure thing.

Especially that close from the hash. Bama isn’t known for their kickers either…I would have rather taken the chance with the field goal

Yep, he was trying to mimic Clemson’s tackling skills.
No, he was just trying to let the guy score so they could can get the ball back. It worked perfect for me!

He was in perfect position to push Bama runner OOB. That would stop clock.

Forcing Bama to run another scrimmage play leads to risk that Bama may fumble.

-or-

Letting Bama run down the clock and then attempt chip-shot FG as time expires exposes Bama to risk of blocked FG. Even the worse case risk that blocked FG gets returned for a TD as time expires.

Gamecocks should at the least pushed Bama runner out of bounds (which was imminently do-able), and then force Bama to win game in regulation via FG or subsequent scrimmage play(s) … in which case one of the above events were on the table.

Yeah, I like my chances more hoping they have to make a field goal.

I know it’s a chip shot but I prefer a field goal kick attempt rather than a 80+ yard drive with no timeouts and 30 seconds on the playclock.

#1 suddenly realized he was a Coot and supposed to lose, so he did his part to help!

Considering the game situation, take the points when you can.

Good coaching by Bama.

Bad coaching by coots.

Not bad coaching...they were in desperate situation...they chose a reasonable option.

Are always viewed based on the outcome of the game. Last week Tee slid down instead of scoring against the Steelers while down 1 and it was a “heads up play”. Obviously if they miss the GW FG it’s a boneheaded move because you “have to take points.”

Same here, if by some miracle the coots hadn’t of been terrible and went down to tie it fans would have praised the defender for being heads up and lamenting the WR for not getting down and letting his team bleed the clock out

I noticed that too !! But what really got me, was when the Bama player crossed the goal line, #1 turns around to his team mates and gives the Touchdown signal. Once the Coot Cockcoaches look at the tape, #1 maybe riding the bench next game !!
