speaking of Social Security, unlike Medicare, there is a maximum taxable income

subject to the Social Security tax. It increases each year that average wages increase. For 2025, it's $176,100. Sure, maybe rilly rich people avoid having that much taxable income, but I'd guess there's a significant number of people that have more than that. Seems like an easy boost for Social Security funding to raise that, or maybe make it like Medicare, with no taxable income tax.

Of course, no need to consider that until we see how much waste, fraud, and abuse they can wring out of it.

Republican politicians think any program that helps poor people is "waste", even the programs that disproportionately benefit their own voters. That anyone making less than $100k/year would consider voting Republican just shows how much the Democrats have focused on the wrong issues.

That would definitely make an impact but they're going to need to start raising the retirement age at some point as people are living longer than ever and will continue to do so. There's no real long-term solution to fixing the social security issue that doesn't involve raising the retirement age.

Yeah I heard musk repeating the same lie. Life expectancy is declining.

More people are just working until they die.

The waste & fraud initiative is justified but really just puffing for pennies

It makes for political theater.

Other solutions need to be enacted that both increase funding and potentially decrease expenditures.

every time that phrase pops up (every administration) it's like nobody has

Maybe kicking out 1 million immigrants who were paying into it will help?

SS and FICA are only on wages, so many people can avoid them altogether.
