One more thought on the idiots

…you know who you are. You are the people screaming for outside hires , and Dabo press Conferences.
I just realized that you fall into two categories.
1. The folk that were screaming bloody murder for Terry Don’s head when he promoted Dabo . Preaching how Clemson would never compete, because we were not serious about football.
Or the Second group ,
2. Group that didn’t sniff being a Clemson fan until Dabo was winning 10+ games a year. Even then you said he could not beat the gamecocks.
Clemson was a great place before either of you groups came around, and will be a great place long after Dabo has moved on.

And we need a coach that’s a offensive guru like Mike Leach”… those drove me crazy along with the cheerleader comments. It’s obvious watching Dabo on the sideline the plays go through him and he has the final say even if he doesn’t exercise it 99% of the time. So I never understood why people think he doesn’t understand plays and schemes just because he chooses not to be a coordinator of one side of the ball.

There was merit to group 1 though. During that time we didn't have any facilities comparable to what we have today. Heck the WestZone wasn't even constructed then. Everyone knew we wouldn't compete then because it was obvious we weren't putting the money into it and it felt terrible we couldn't even attract 1 big name to even interview with us. I was a student then. You can't compare how serious Clemson is today to how it was then.

Great Post. They are but a few but they make a lot of noise. You identified them. Either they want to tell Dabo how to operate his program or they have just been around for the playoff run and think we should never lose a game. They were not around like many of us in the 70s forward when getting to a bowl game was euphoria ??

Dabo gone to build a program where he's appreciated. Fortunately, most fans can keep things in perspective.

CDS has brought unprecedented success

to the Clemson football program. His leadership has been exemplary, and he has certainly earned the trust of the fanbase to guide the program through this leadership rebuild. And I think our program as a whole has grown in stature to the point that the hiring base for that rebuild is vast; he can hire from within, or he can recruit from across the country. He has that credibility now.
But, be honest... when Tommy Bowden's failure finally reached the breaking point, and you heard that we were going to hire an untested assistant coach from the TOMMY BOWDEN coaching tree, were you instantly "ALL IN" on that? What the heck did you know about Dabo Swinney at that point, other than he was recommended by a failed head coach?
Hindsight is 20/20. But if you're saying that you could see Dabo accomplishing this level of success when he was hired, well... I don't believe you. So calling those who were skeptics "idiots" is ridiculous. You've been here long enough to know that.

People like him automatically go to calling others names like “idiots”, when they don’t fall in line and agree with their train of thought, or drink the kool-aid.

Not really m. I , in this case , call people idiots that are not smart enough to see when there yapping does damage to the very thing they profess to cherish. That being the Football program.

I was excited with Dabo's hiring. I knew the players backed him and he was responsible for recruiting Spiller over Tommy's doubts. And besides we were promoting an Alabama grad from our existing staff, like Howard, Ford and even Pell. Seemed like we may have been on to something.

I was against the Dabo hire, but

I'm glad I was wrong about that. Dabo far surpassed my expectations. But that doesn't mean it's a formula that will always work. Going for it on fourth down works done too...but nobody goes for it every time. When Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma for USC, the Oklahoma AD never considered hiring from within. Let that sink in. Nick Saban rarely does it. How did that work out for him? But my biggest point I'd like to make is, Clemson football would not be what it is today without Brent Venables. He was a HUGE part of the wonderful success we have seen the past 8 or 9 years. Oh yeah, and Brent wasn't an inside promotion...he was an outside hire! Just let that sink in. Either way, I'm still all in. Just think a mistake is being made.

I have been T-Net member for 15 years, and I have been coming to T-Net almost daily since becoming a donating member 14 of my 15 years as a member. And I'm seeing names pop up now that I've never seen before, and they have been a registered member before I knew anything about Tiger Net, and they have posted more in the past few weeks than they've every posted since my time here on T-Net. And I can only think of a few good reasons why they haven't been posting very much since my time as a member. One, they have been in a coma all this time, Two, they are a coot that only comes here when thing are bad, and they pretend to be an upset, but concern Clemson fan, Three, they haven't been able to afford an internet hook up for the past 10 to 15 years. Personally, I find it easier to believe that they are a coot pretending to be an upset, concern Clemson fan that should get a life, and be really concerned about that dumb they call a FB program in cootlumbia!!!

Good poast. I think there are a lot of empty seats on the bandwagon, and that's fine. I remember listening to games with uncle Belton and him muttering: "well we got a moral victory, we held them to a field goal..."
