Gentlemen,

My wife's 4Runner is getting to the point where new tires are needed. I'm not the most vehicle-savvy person, so I was reading a little online. It looks like when we bought the 4Runner, dealers in the SouthEast were rebranding the SR5 as an XP and adding Nitto Grappler G2 tires for, what I assume, is an offroad capable vehicle. However, ours is only 2WD. We grabbed it because it was right at the beginning of the car shortage and it had a 3rd row.

So the existing tire is a Nitto A/T Terra Grappler G2 275/55R20

I should just replace this with a Michelin or Goodyear or something for a daily driver around town (soccermom type shidd) with a 20" rim, right? Do I have to stick with only 275/55R20 tires?

Thanks for your assistance and please feel free to make me feel stupid. It works all the time.

275 is width

55 is from rim to road
You could go to 60 or 65 i believe

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But I gotta maintain that width, right? Cause that is based off the wheel. So

I can look for 275/60R20 possibly. I don't think it makes a big difference, to be honest, just trying to get one that works for wife for a couple years then daughter for the rest of that cars life (or until we have to replace again)

ringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, i would maintain width

Youll hardly notice the difference between 55 and 60.

Don’t feel dumb. I just go to my local trusted family owned tire place and they give me 3 options, expensive, outrageous, and bend over we’re coming in with sand and no lube.
Had to do this this afternoon in fact
I ask if the lowest one is an ok tire, she says it’s what I have on my car so I say let’s do it and I’ll take the tires too.

Not really, she could kick my ### 5 ways to Sunday but I did think it.

$145 per tire but these are going on a Honda insight so all 4 tires probably smaller than one of yours

I'd put Michelin Defenders on it and forget about AT tires.

I mean its 2wd. Why bother with that noise and harshness?

Changing out my 4runners Michelin Defenders this week. They are 7 years old, and dry rotting. The tread depth looks like they have about 30K miles left on them. I mean, if they weren't cracking.

but it shouldn't be that much. I'd bet its the aggressive tires. They get louder and rougher riding as the tires age.

I looked up the receipt from when I bought these defenders in 2018..and they were $1,000 then, which is about $1285 now. So they haven't gone up a whole lot over 7 years.

They were about $900 installed from Sam's.

Current best price is about $205/ea from Walmarts. Alternatively, you could trade it in for a new vehicle with new tires for slightly more dollars.

You sound like my wife.

This one is going to the kids when they get to drive, spoiled ass little shits.

My first car was a '73 VW Beetle, when that wasn't cool at all.

Wife's first car was an '89 Honda Accord with one light stuck up, a leaky sunroof, and a busted radiator. My buddies in auto mechanics class learned alot about fixing cars from her, she would drive to school and take it straight to the garage.

but I read some reviews and hope it was worth it. My guess is at 2-3K miles year it won't really matter. Hopefully it will be the last set of tires I put on this car.

There's just nobody close to the quality and durability of BFG.

And yes Nittos are loud no matter what kind of tire you buy

Been up to 100mph in it without issue.

Never had an issue with BFG ATs or MTs. Hoping the KO3 C comes out before these tires wear out.

The load rating makes a big difference on how well they balance.
