Just found out something cool (computer nerd-alert)

Nov 19, 2021, 3:50 PM

Have a storage drive, then an operating system drive. Storage drive was getting full. Have some old, smaller hard drives, but really don't want like 4 drives of varying sizes holding whatever. #### collection is just too big now, and didn't want midget lesbian asian BDSM split among different drives.

ANYWAY, heard you can add drives randomly to any existing drive in Windows, without losing all that was on the original drive, AND consolidate it all under one drive letter. So I tossed in 4 old hard drives with my storage drive and OS drive, one 500GB, one 2TB and then two that are 1TB each. Formatted all the disks I added (4 of them) to wipe all partitions, kept the OS drive and Storage drive untouched. Then chose expand for my storage drive the added the 4 new empty drive/volumes into a single dynamic drive. Storage drive is now like 12TB, AND it kept the originals in the storage drive untouched. NICE.

It's basically like RAID 0, but you can do it on the fly, with any drive and size, AND keep the files in the original drive, so it all doesn't have to be formatted as one big drive.

I hope you have some sort of redundancy set up

That's a lot of data to go boom in a house fire or power surge

I have NAS for the important stuff.

And then there's the cloud. Also have whole house surge protection at the main in the breaker box, PLUS NAS/router/computer surge protection and battery backup.

You can take any number of old hard drives laying around

Nov 19, 2021, 3:57 PM

throw them in your PC, and make them all into one massive drive, by adding them to an existing one.

12 TB is a whole lot of floppy discs.***
