WRU 2023 Stat Challenge

Aug 8, 2023, 10:13 AM

I know what you're all thinking . . . TVD is back! Yes! . . . I know . . . my posts mean a lot to the Tigers, and we're all really excited. But before you go accusing me of being a Judge Keller scock, put your pride on the line in the 2023 stat challenge below.

Just read D Hood's latest practice summary. He's real high on this year's WR group. Hope it's not just the orange colored glasses. Would be great to see the passing game return to something like its former glory. Last year, I brilliantly predicted that the offense would be much better. I was right. Mostly because 2021 was horrible though. This year, before I exercise my prescience and disclose what will happen, I invite you, my fellow tnetters to make predictions in the following categories. Stats are courtesy of sports-reference.com:

Passing yds/game:
2022 Tigers - 232.4; 66th out of 131
2022 others - #1) 369.8 (#10) 311.2 (#25) 272.5 (#50) 249.2 (#75) 225.2 (#100) 205.5

Passing TDs/game:
2022 Tigers - 1.7; 59th out of 131
2022 others - #1) 3.3 (#10) 2.7 (#25) 2.2 (#50) 1.8 (#75) 1.5 (#100) 1.3

Comp pct:
2022 Tigers - 62.1; 58th out of 131
2022 others - #1) 71.3 (#10) 67.1 (#25) 65.0 (#50) 62.6 (#75) 60.3 (#100) 57.1

Total yds/game:
2022 Tigers - 410.3; 48th out of 131
2022 others - #1) 525.5 (#10) 484.2 (#25) 455.8 (#50) 405.8 (#75) 377.1 (#100) 348.5

Points/game:
2022 Tigers - 33.2; 30th out of 131
#1) 46.1 (#10) 38.8 (#25) 34.5 (#50) 30.6 (#75) 26.6 (#100) 23.3

We were 21st in plays last year and 29th in first downs. Just throwing that in there to help you think about the offense as a whole last year. I'll wait a while to give my predictions so as not to anchor anyone else's.

TCU was 93d in passing yds last year (81st in attempts), 31st in rushing yds, 27th in total offense, and 10th in scoring offense.

First of all, thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. Great conversation here regarding predictions on how the Tiger offense will fare this year. Also, thanks to the OP for putting all these stats in one place. Surprised by TCU's numbers in particular. Thought the passing game was the main reason we brought in Riley. Now on to my predictions.

Passing yds: 275/game, top 25 in country - Of course, I think our wr's are going to be exceptional despite the past few seasons of poor performance, because I can't help it. Odds are that they won't be as good as I think. Top 25 would be a big improvement.

Passing TD's: 2/game, top 25 - Adam Randall breaks out and leads the way for the Tigers in TD receptions, followed by Antonio Williams, who leads the team in yards and improves on his stellar freshman campaign.

Completion Pct: 65%, top 25 - Full season of Cade helps accuracy numbers. New scheme and healthy receivers helps confidence and drops.

Total Offense: 475/game - Top 15 in the country. Running game gets better due to improved passing attack, more seasoned OL.

Points: 37/game - right around top 10. Think our playmakers will be better this year and will capitalize more on opportunities. This is the category we'll point to when we say that the new OC hire was the right move.

There you go. Mark it down, Tiger fans. If the 2023 offense can accomplish all this, it ought to be a pretty good season.
