This pitching is just unacceptable. Understandably it’s a great team we’re playing, but in a ton of games we’ve given up runs right after getting some back on offense. They just can’t hold up. I’ve got to imagine some guys could be getting chewed out.

Please just consider, even for a moment, that our pitchers are trying as hard as they can but the Wake players were just better. A college baseball coach recruits and fills out the lineup cards and the players do the rest. There is no strategy in baseball maybe beyond bunting, stealing or intentional walks.

If he’s really a great coach - to what end? You chew people out for making stupid mistakes or giving less than their best effort. If that’s what he thinks is happening then I would expect that yes, he has gone ballistic. But, I think reality is that he knows he inherited a less than ideal pitching staff and is trying to make the best of things. Attacking kids that are giving their best is counterproductive.

Believe it or not.. the pitching is better this year than it has been the last couple. Andrew See isn't fit to coach pitching in a tee ball league.

It’s a push if anything. The ERA for the entire season last year (including all ACC opponents) was 4.86. This seasons’s ERA so far? 4.86.

Our pitching has not been great for sure. For many reasons. Health is the number one. We have not had a healthy staff all year. All year. Weiss came here as supposedly a stud closer. He has had back problems and is just now coming around. Ammons made it 2 weekends, Barlow has not pitched yet, Clayton missed 2 weeks. Tallent is out now. Tristan is struggling now. Hopefully he snaps out of it soon. Very talented. I could go on. Luckily most are almost ready to contribute again. We could actually have a very salty bunch for the 2nd half of the season. And remember Rome was not built in a day. We got a guy now that absolutely knows what he is doing.

It's a fact that you can have one of the best defenses in the country, but without good starting pitching and relief pitching out of the bull pen, you're not going to win a lot of games...
You've got to get the batters out, or it's going to be a LONG LONG gut wrenching season. A great baseball HC's can't change the pitching arms that he inherits in his 1st off season!!!
IMO, Bakich will need time to recruit the type of players that he feels he can win with, or do him a huge favor by letting him go at the end of the season....

Anyone think it's not about coaching isn't following baseball. The pitcher from wake that beat us was the 480th ranked player in their 2000 class.
Tristan Smith who gave up a 3 run bomb is the 23rd rated player in our 22 class. By all accounts, he should be starting.
The kid that hit wakes 2nd homerun was a +500 ranked pitcher from Maine. The kid can hit and is a sophomore. The other homerun was from a freshman. Coaching matters. It's also identified kids. Cam is a +500 player. But he can hit.
Jay Dill is a higher rated pitcher than anyone on wakes staff. Obviously the pitching lab that wake has works... or the pitching coach is good.
Bakich will get there. Let him bring the young frosh around.

A lot of it has to be coaching because yesterday the Clemson pitcher had great stuff, wonderful control, throwing strikes, was ahead of every hitter 1-2 or 0-2 and was cruising along. He goes 0-2 on two different batters and throws a lollipop down the middle which both hit out of the park for a 5-0 lead. The kid threw 2 bad pitches all night on 0-2 and he is down 5-0. That is just coaching and preparation for the mental side of pitching. As early as Little League, pitchers are taught to make the batter nibble at a bad one on 0-2......not serve up a batting practice pitch.
