LIV Golf...Not a big Brandel Chamblee fan but he makes

Jun 10, 2022, 11:30 AM

some good and valid points.

Supposedly the Ryder Cup is going to ban players. The Masters will be coming out with a statement in the near future; many think the PGA's stance will either be greatly strengthened or severely weakened based on Augusta's stance.

Agree Brandel has some really good points and analysis, but he can be a bit of an elitist.

The stance of Augusta National will he pivotal to what happens next

Interesting that 2 of the LIV tournaments are on Trump courses

Trump got mad when the tour got woke and pulled the pga championship from one of his courses.
This is him in retaliation.

I am curious to what the Augusta National says, if anything. They, of course, march to the beat of their own drummer, but I have a feeling that they won't ban any players that they feel should be invited. Whether they take to top so many players from the new tour is questionable. Not necessarily because they are against the new tour, but there are only so many players they can take and if they don't qualify under a number of different criteria they have to be in the top 50 of the current Golf World Ranking. There will ways to qualify, but not as many.

The Masters will do whatever they want...

regardless of what the PGA says or thinks.

I think that the Masters will them play, you have several past Masters winners with a life exemption, can't see them keeping them out just for joining another organization.

Nope !!!

They want the best group of golfers in their tournament field regardless of tour affiliation.

Wrong

There have been players out of the top 50 that have been issued special invites that were ranked lower than some that were not included. The Masters is all about tradition. When I read Tiger Wood’s statement on why he was staying with the PGA, I immediately thought that it had been written by the ANGC. Look at the banners flying at the LIV tournament this week. “GOLF BUT LOUDER”. That is not what the Masters is about. The ANGC does not want to leave the impression that the green jacket can be purchased. Can you imagine what the Saudi investors will do if one of the LIV players wins the green jacket? I honestly do not see if happening. The ANGC will work to preserve the tradition of the PGA.

ANGC

Oh but they can. The MO of the ANGC is to not issue credentials or an invitation to someone that is not welcome. This has been done to a prior winner. This has also been done to local doctors that are on staff and others. The club does not give you a warning. I believe the ANGC will not issue a press release because that is not how they work. They will just not send the paper invitations to the LIV players to play in the 2023 Masters tournament.

The PGA does not like competition

Jun 10, 2022, 4:07 PM

Nether did the NFL like the AFL, nor did the NBA like the ABA. We'll see what happens.

It wont be much of a competition. Plenty of great players chomping at the bit to get in their fields.

Masters is in invitational and can invite who ever they want to period. They will just play for the payday and receive no Fed Ex points.

If you are a member of the PGA and they don’t want you playing on a rival tour then the only thing you can do is resign your membership. Fairly simple in my mind.

How does world ranking points work. Weaker fields as of right now with a little over 40 players. Screw them if you wanted the money take it and roll on.

It would be like an NFL player saying he is going to play in the USFL as well imo.

No big deal will not miss most of what left the PGA and sure I won’t watch any of it anyways with the PGA playing every week.

Do like the fact they are playing at Doral. That stop should have never ended. Was a great tourney.

To comment on your post about the Ryder Cup I would think that would be like world golf rankings. How do those guys qualify for the Ryder Cup when they are not getting any points to qualify.

To be on the Ryder Cup (from the US) you have to be a member of the PGA of America ..... not the PGA Tour, so I assume that as long as those playing in the LIV are still PGA of America members they can play.

I don't see this thing holding up for to long. I think most fans like the way the PGA does things. You want to get paid you have to earn it. Every week you have the young guys trying to make it and the older guys trying to hang on.
