My agonizingly long wait for fiber interweb is nearing the end!

contractor for the fiber company just came by. They're running a line from the line out on the paved road, which is less than 1/2 mi from my house. It'll run on power poles, along with the cable company fiber line, to the house right behind me, then underground like our utility lines to a box in front of my yard, at the my road. That'll take a couple-three weeks, then another wait for them to run the fiber underground from there to my house. But, hey, they're actually working on it. Can't wait to be done w/ DSL.

We'll probably all have moved on to a greater technology than the internet in 2 or 3 weeks time I'd venture.

IIRC, back in my building facilities days, I wanna say fiber was over $500 / foot to run.
am I way off? been 6 or 7 years.

The dude I was talking to about time frame mentioned running into rock running the underground lines. I said, "oh, there's a lot of rock around here". I can't dig a hole to plant flowers or bushes, whatev, without hitting small and/or very large rock.
Remember, Biden sloshed around a LOT of money to get the whole country access to internet, cause it turned into a big deal during Covid. I think the fiber companies need to spend the money by 2026 or they lose it.
