Well, he Is a teenager and our education system has been working hard to minimize the history of the USA as a force for good in our world.

"A day that will live in infamy."
I once interviewed a sailor who shot down 8 Japanese Zeros from the deck of the USS Arizona as it was being bombed...and lived. We millenials generally have no idea the depth of peril and great sacrifice that the Greatest Generation undertook to "secure the blessings of liberty." May God continue His hand of rich blessing on America. GO TIGERS.

An interesting intersection of fate and faith

The Commander of the Japanese air armada that attacked on that day was Mitsuo Fuchida.
The first US raid on the Japanese home islands was conducted four months later when Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle led 80 airmen in 16 B-25 Mitchel bombers from the carrier USS Hornet on April 18, 1942 to bomb Japan.
Eight of those "Dolittle Raiders" were captured by the Japanese. Three were executed, the other five held on a starvation diet which resulted in the loss of another man. One of those prisoners, SSgt Jacob DeShazer, asked a guard if he could borrow a Bible. He had it for only three weeks but through this he resolved to commit his life to God.
Upon his freedom when the US won the war he attended a Christian college and returned to Japan as a missionary. He established a church in Nagoya, the city he bombed.
Mitsuo Fuchida one day read an article about DeShazer. This inspired him to become a Christian and he spent the rest of his life as a missionary.
At times the Commander of the Japanese air fleet that first attacked the US 75 years ago today, and a former US Airman who was on the first US bombing raid on Japan toured and preached their faith together.
Fate and Faith.
