WOW! It’s ALL about OSU?!

Not a single one of their statements apologized to the victim/s of Zach Smith.
Sad commentary on their motives.

I believe this will be an all season distraction.

More importantly they will suffer greatly as they should. For me this is no different than if they had just tried to sweep it all under the rug. Domestic violence should not be taken so lightly as Oh St's message is today.

Good lord, they just asked Urban at the end of the presser what his message was for Courtney Smith and he said, “I’m just sorry we’re in this situation.”
THAT’S IT?!?!!!!
Unbelievable

They will still be in the playoffs

Once the season starts, this will be a cloud of sorts for the program. But as the wins pile up, the clouds will dissipate. The machinery of NCAA FBS.
Looking further out, will it impact recruiting? I think minimally, if at all. In the end kids and their families want to make it to the NFL and Urban & Co are as good as anyone for making that happen.

This whole thing could wind up being used to help Ohio State this season. If say they lose to Penn State and finish 11-1 but don't win the east people at ESPN are going to talk about it as a mitigating factor as it pertains to Ohio State potentially making the playoff in the manner Bama did last year.
Remember how all of Chad Kelly's issues were: "The things he's been through." Being an entitled a-hole is not adversity.

As I suspected, the media is already starting to savage OSU and deservedly so. It turns out that both Gene Smith (AD) and Urban Meyer both knew of the Zack Smith's alleged abuse in 2015 and neither of them reported it to the University compliance office. Essentially, Smith and Meyer did nothing and were content to forget about these allegations back in 2015 even though Zach Smith had a prior (2009) documented history of this sort of behavior. Yep - that seems like a mature response...Good grief what a couple of morons.
Since the news conference last night, I kept trying to figure out why OSU didn't simply fire Gene Smith (he admitted responsibility for not reporting the allegation to University compliance) while suspending Urban without pay for being stupid. That would at least give the University minimal cover for being tough on those that turn a blind eye to domestic violence allegations.
This morning it occurred to me that the reason OSU did not fire Gene Smith is that Gene Smith is a member of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. If OSU fires Smith, OSU loses any input or influence in that arena. Quite frankly, I hope there is enough uproar over this that Smith is removed from the Playoff Committee - Smith's incompetence should not be rewarded with such a position.
One can only hope that Ohio State's limp wristed response to this thing comes back to bite them in the keester some day.

It infers an admission of guilt.

In my opinion, making the statement about following his heart and not his head infers admission of guilt.
