Would Clemson now have to pay it's athletes

Jul 6, 2021, 11:38 PM

for using their photo on the Iptay ticket stubs? If so, there's your recruiting tool. Raise the ticket price by $2. When the player gets his photo printed on the stub, that's his profit day. Even when we sell tickets to South Carolina, their fans will have to pay for a ticket with DJU's photo on it and $2 of their purchase will go directly to DJU. $160,000 windfall on the day your photo is used if the game is a sellout.

I think it's brilliant, but it doesn't work that way. SC law on NIL.

(A)(3) Compensation may not be provided in exchange for an intercollegiate athlete's athletic performance or attendance at a particular institution of higher learning and may only be provided by a third party unaffiliated with the intercollegiate athlete's institution of higher learning.

(E) An intercollegiate athlete at an institution of higher learning may not use the institution of higher learning's facilities, uniforms provided by the institution of higher learning, or the institution of higher learning's intellectual property, including, but not limited to, the unauthorized use of a registered trademark or product protected by copyright, in connection with the use of the intercollegiate athlete's name, image, or likeness activities.

(F) Activities related to an intercollegiate athlete's use of his name, image, or likeness for compensation are prohibited from taking place during the intercollegiate athlete's participation in academic, athletic, or team-mandated activities as defined by the institution of higher learning.

Could we just start a non profit organization

Jul 7, 2021, 12:25 AM [ in reply to Re: Would Clemson now have to pay it's athletes ]

And take donations for $2, $5 whatever people wanted to pay a player. Maybe $20 for an autograph?

I do not know if it can be a non profit but, yes, some kind of company. Dan Lambert created a new NIL “Bring back the U” marketing company. Lambert is using the new company to pay every football player $500 a month to advertise his MMA business. This will be the start for Miami. Lambert will figure out how to funnel more money through the NIL marketing company so he can increase the monthly pay check. So yes, players are now getting paid. Just wait until the Texas schools get started.

Yes, it can be a non profit, but a certain portion of the money goes to the non profit charity and business PR wise is the best way to do it. It now becomes a write off and looks good for the person giving and players receiving. I said a week or two ago these Non profits will be pooping up all over these college towns. However the teams that were already cheating will be out front and just shove it in your face like Dan Lambert and a Marketing firm!

The tickets are printed on paper. A booster can create a company that can purchase paper and then sell it to the company that designs and prints the tickets that they sell to the athletic apartment. Plenty of degrees of separation there to get the two dollars per ticket payday that you describe. There might even be a little bit for you for thinking of it. Except that Alabama is probably already doing it at four dollars per ticket.

In order to get the highest quality gloss photo on paper, one really needs pure sweet gum pulp, preferably from Northwest Edgefield County. I might know someone who knows someone who can provide that. Surely our NIL laws would not discriminate against an innocent pulp mill trying to support Clemson football players.

I don’t expect Clemson to go back to paper tickets. It’s eTickets from here on out.

Electronic ticketing is even easier to get the degrees of separation necessary for creating name image license money. Logging on to an independent site in order to purchase the tickets create advertising opportunities that can easily be separated and manipulated
