Dabo vs Brad coaching basketball

I know Dabo likes to play basketball. He loves coaching. I would be pretty sure Dabo could take players off the football team and beat Brads players given a month to practice. Back when I was at Clemson in the 70s, a lot of football players were shooting hoops all the time. What do y’all think?

Motivation cannot be underated. I once played against a S Aiken soccer team that had terrible talent levels and was coached by a football coach. You could tell they loved him and played hard for them. We should have beat them 8-0 but only won by a few goals. It matters and I think Brad is lacking in that category.

I think that Brad Brownell has an excellent basketball mind, and he should bc he has been around the game in depth his entire life. But it is my opinion that he didn't ever learn how to maximize his players talent for getting the best results.
Dabo can look at HS FB recruits, and he knows how he can use that recruit in his scheme, and it maynot be the same position that he is playing in HS, and I don't think that Brad can see that in the players that he recruits.

That’s funny I played for Lugoff Elgin and soccer , and the football coach was our coach. he knew zero about soccer, but we were well conditioned, disciplined and focused. He did know how to put his best players on the field and we can run a corner kick like nobody’s business. We had 1-12 talent but each year we ended up being like 7-6

I think that with the education background that Dabo has, his ability to assemble the types of people that it takes to get the best results with whatever he does. Dabo could be a winner in whatever he chooses to do bc that is the way his mind works/wired.
Everything that Dabo has had to face before becoming a graduate from college, and becoming he own man, and marrying a woman like Kathleen with solid background, it fine tuned his senses to overcome, and accomplish through hard work, and 100% dedication to be successful in whatever he chooses to do. It's my opinion that Dabo could/would be successful with whatever!!!

I belive Dabo would do well coaching bkball, but to go out and ask highly recruited meant to be football players and asking them to compete with guys who mostly were top 150 players in bkball is not going to go well. Now give Dabo a experienced bkball assistant coach or two and take good bkball players and He would definitelly be able to win big.

Brad over the last 6 years on composite 247 player rank has been 200-250 range. He's had a couple in the 170-200 range but a lot of them left.
Not saying anything pro or con against Brad but let's not act like he's getting top talent. I think as far as what AO52 point is, Dabo would take that 250 ranked player and make them into a top 100 player, whereas Brad hasn't shown the ability to do that yet. Neither has Monte.

Thanks for the list. Just pointing out what the 247 composite was. That's all. I firmly stated wasn't pro or con against Brad. Didn't like the hire then, don't now. Not my decision to make. I'll support Clemson no matter what.
No one still hasn't told me why we don't offer kids with the gonzaga and Duke's, Kansas etc. Should we not desire to compete for their talent level?

If there is mutual interest, and we like them, we offer them.
Unfortunately, most of those players want to go to a basketball school where basketball is a priority for the administration and fans. Clemson doesn’t have that.
You saw my post the other day about our assistant coach salaries being just below the national average, yes?

Yes. I saw that post. Very enlightening. I'll be the first to admit, I'm ignorant when it comes to basketball but was simply curious when I look at the top 100 players and view their offer list, I never see Clemson listed. As in football, even the 5* players we recruit, I see where usc or a coastal whatever has at least sent an offer. That was my question today as it was 2 weeks ago.
So would it not be in Brad's best interest to reduce his salary and up the assistants. Got to get the money somewhere. May be a chicken and egg but it's tough to sell more tickets on a Wednesday night against middle road opponent.
I do know if we had a top 20 team and a top 5 unc was playing, even Wednesday would be packed. Tuff situation.

Josh is a good kid and I'll be pulling for the hometown fella but he's not top 150 talent. He may develop into it, but not now.

I think you are clueless about the skill level of our basketball team. It would look like our FB players playing frat boys in the intramural league.

This take reminds me of the Bill Swerski's Super Fans comedy skit on SNL, talking about Ditka, key words being "comedy skit".

Most people have no clue how good and skilled college basketball players are. If you took the best basketball players among the football team over the last 20 years(Nuk, Higgins, etc), they would get run out of the gym.

No chance Dabo could win using football players. Better question is if you let Dabo coach and run the basketball program could he do better than Brad?
My opinion is he could. He would sell his vision to the board as well as recruits and he would absolutely put a better product on the court.

Dabo would be successful at college basketball for three reasons:
1) He’d create a culture of winning and accountability with the players and staff. He wouldn’t throw his players under the bus discussing their shortcomings as to why he didn’t win. Dabo would point the finger at himself first.
2) He’d energize recruits and the fanbase. 3) He’d find the flaws in the system, and immediately fix it. He wouldn’t be stubborn enough to continue to run the same bland, boring “first team to 60 wins” snooze fest strategy for a over a decade UNLESS it resulted in championships.

Nothing against Dabo, but being successful at the highest level of college basketball is about much more than enthusiasm and being a player’s coach. Larry Shyatt was very similar to Dabo in that regard and you know how that turned out.

You mean you don’t play defense with you hands and feet moving, set picks on offense, shoot when you have an open shot, rebound and shoot free throws anymore? I guess the game has passed me by.
