OT: SC BBQ Survey

If so inclined, please share in your circles and take the following survey about SC BBQ. Started to make an updated version of the SC sauce map, but realized I should gather info from those who live in those areas instead of simply basing the map on what sauces are served by restaurants in those areas. One thing led to another and next thing you know I have a comprehensive survey about many aspects of SC BBQ. Results should be interesting.

Have had plenty of replies (almost 400 so far), but I get what you're saying. I guess I did require a name (which could be fictional, I guess). And I had to have you pick a county and region so I could apply the answers to a given area, but nothing else is required. Email, age, etc. are all optional.

I guess I don’t worry about someone knowing my first name, email address, and the fact that I grew up enjoying Orangeburg County BBQ.

Me too. I was raised on Dukes B-B-Q in Orangeburg. I still like the chopped pork with hash on rice and sliced bread, but after I was introduced to eastern NC vinegar and pepper sauce, I left the mustard sauce in the past.

Yep...being born and raised in Cheraw, vinegar-pepper is all I knew until I left. I've learned to like them all, but VP will always be my definition of BBQ>

My Dad was from Eastern North Carolina. As such, I grew up with vinegar based sauce on the table the majority of the time.
Particularly Sauers bbq sauce. I like it, but am partial to mustard based.

I agree with ColumbiaTiger whole heartedly. Vinegar base is best. But l am sleeping with the enemy. My baby was raised in mustard. It's alright. But l would take vinegar any day of the week.

Being from the Upstate, some people don't understand why I like the vinegar based sauce. I do make a marinate using vinegar and mustard with sweet heat seasoning.

Have you been to Circle M? The only Pee Dee style whole hog wood cooked BBQ in the Upstate. Worth a try if you haven't. In Liberty.

Same here 76er.
I was trying to find out what the deductible was yesterday on my Medicare Supplemental policy from Aetna, so I went to their website for informastion and had to put in a limited amount of personal info. When it got to the point where I could see that they were fishing for new policy sales, I clicked out. In 10 minutes I get a call from them. I told them I already had a policy and agent.

Interesting perspective. I guess I'm not as cautious. Definitely get the Aetna situation, though.
Just curious, help me understand: was it that I required a name? or required the county and region? And/or that I asked for other (optional) demographic info? Or that I asked any demographic info at all? Clearly, you could just put fictional info in the required fields. Thanks.

76 there was a guy that worked nights at Sconyers and used to bring all the leftovers to GIW when I worked there one Summer. Not the best BBQ, but when you were a starving 17-year-old it was heaven.

I received Going Whole Hog for Christmas. Great book. It sits by my chair along with my reading glasses and BP Cuff. I love re-reading about the different BBQ joints. Great book, good job. Get your news letter too. Makes me want to run out back and fire it up!
