Woods

Dec 15, 2022, 8:05 PM

I'm just a country pastor and I'm not as knowledgable as some of the TNet Allstars® but as we get closer to signing day, I find myself more and more concerned about Woods bouncing before getting to campus. I was pretty surprised that Saban let him out of Alabama and his hard commit was a pretty big surprise. I don't imagine Coach Prime is going to steal him away though he was trying to holler at him. Colorado is a long ways from Bama. South Carolina is not. But, I will feel like 1,000% better about this class when his fax comes in next Wednesday. That's all.

He said reason why he committed to Clemson was not just for football Only .

FAX...what's that?

Dec 15, 2022, 8:16 PM

Just kidding. Not worried about this guy at all. He loves Clemson and seems to want to be coached by our coaches. As far as coach Prime, I have a lot of respect for him and what he has done and continue to do, but guys like Woods won't go over there until he gets Colorado turned around. They have a long way to go.

What is it about Deon that many people on tnet respect?

Dec 15, 2022, 8:37 PM

You are far from alone in your opinion, I just don’t see it. From my perspective he’s always been, and always will be, all about prime; That’s not the guy I would want to coach my kid. He made a big deal about the virtues of HBCUs when recruiting his roster at Jackson state and how important they are, now he’s leaving and planning to take all of those guys with him to Colorado. That school’s football team is gonna be a smoking crater next year.
Then he had one of the most self-indulgent and self-aggrandizing introductory meetings I’ve ever seen at Colorado. Who wants a coach that’s gonna talk down to a group of students that he knows nothing about. Take time to watch their film and get to know em, then you can sit them down one on one and honestly assess their future on the team. That was just a peacock strutting through the room letting everyone know, once again, it’s gonna be all about him.

Ditto. Prime a very self centered guy. He will work hard to do well at Colorado just to say look what I did. He is easy to read.

I respect a lot of things about him.

Dec 15, 2022, 9:13 PM [ in reply to What is it about Deon that many people on tnet respect? ]

First of all, he’s one of the most successful athletes ever. He played two sports at the highest level. That gives him a ton of credibility.

Second, he was an intense competitor. He played with so much heart. His teammates knew they could count on him.

Third, he’s been through a lot and learned from his mistakes. The guy hit rock bottom, found Jesus, and has done a lot of great things since then.

Fourth, he’s shown that he can be a successful college head coach. What he did at Jackson State was impressive.

I don’t know if he will be successful at Colorado, but I wouldn’t doubt him. I think he will do great there. He’s going to do it his way, and some people won’t like that. But the greats always do it their way, don’t they?

I think it’s unfair to criticize him for leaving Jackson State. He didn’t promise them a lifetime contract. It’s possible for him to believe in the HBCU mission and support it while also choosing to take another (much better) position. He’s donating half of his salary at Colorado to Jackson State next year for their new facilities. That’s amazing. How many other coaches have done that? Have any other college football coaches ever donated millions of dollars to anything, let alone their former school?

"Everybody needs to know that Coach Brownell is arguably the best coach to come through Clemson." -PJ Hall

I don't begrudge him the opportunity to leave for a better

Dec 15, 2022, 9:35 PM

Job it's how it works. Taking all of his players with him after making a lot of noise about how being part of an HBCU is bigger than self is crap. He used restoring HBCUs to their former glory as a recruiting hook and by taking his "louis luggage" with him when he leaves he shows it was all horse sheet.

I'm also not impressed by the record at Jackson st; he had better players than everyone he played because players who wouldn't normally go to a school like that wanted to play for coach prime. We'll see if he can pull guys away from the big boys to go to Colorado.

we used to get legal documents by fax and the print on the paper would fade. Much time back then was used copying the fax you just got

So you think a pastor does not have outside interests like everyone else? Also why Baptist?

I love how you say “getting involved” as if he’s taking the churches money and giving it to recruits. Bro, he’s on a message bored like the rest of us talking about a recruit. Since the rest of us aren’t pastors we are allowed to “get involved?” I’m not criticizing I just find it hilarious. Seriously, your take made me laugh.
