Coach Swinney has done a fantastic job of putting my alma mater on the map since he became the head coach. And he has done everything the right way. Unfortunately the games have changed and our teams will have to adjust to be competitive. Sad that money has become so involved in amateur sports. Changes in the entire programs will have to be made to stay competitive . Money has a way of ruining a lot of things and now our favorite pastimes are greatly affected. Much wiser men than me will have to resolve this problem and I wish them luck. Athletic scholarships have made a new life for thousands of young people who likely would never had a chance without their athletic skills. Unfortunately it is likely to late to return to ‘days of old’.

Money has always driven college football

Bigger stadiums, better facilities, players being paid during recruiting.

I don’t think you understand how much money universities were making off of college athletes over the last 20 years. As part of a free market economy, players deserve to be included in the revenue they are personally generating. And yes, beyond just a scholarship.

The demand and money going into college football changed that. That was due to the fans.

Believe me I do understand how much schools make from athletic events. Nike, Under Armor, etc makes millions from universities who promote their products. I can see how a system could be developed to aid the players as long as it was equal for everyone. Most student athletes have perks that aren’t available to regular students. That was true in the early 60’s when I was a student. Clemson doesn’t have the same kind of alumni as Texas A &M but they can compete with them if the rules allow!

Won’t be long before revivals will be packing out stadiums instead of college football, in my opinion, it’s coming soon.
